I recently picked up a dead (displays nothing on screen) Sony PVM 20UM2MDU for cheap, after messing around with it I believe the cause of failure the HOT or flyback transformer (or both).

I'm looking for a replacement chassis board (from a compatible model PVM) or someone that can service the chassis (I will NOT ship the entire monitor).

I've started stripping this for parts, anyone want something now is the time to PM.

Yup the same ;)

I'm not a CRT expert, but based on the degauss I think it must be PSU related.
The flyback transformer still seems to provide that crackle when you fire it up, and the hairs on my arm standup when I get close to the tube.
 
Degauss doesn't typically use the PSU.

Degauss functionality usually uses AC power so the button is little more than a switch that routs the power from the wall to the coil around the tube.

The only time the Deguass would be tied in with the PSU is if there is a little timer circuit that clicks on a relay for a few seconds to switch AC power to the Degauss when first powering up.

In my experience though a lot of auto Degauss setups are barely noticeable. FWIW I don't here or see much indication of the auto Degauss on my working PVM.
 
I'm not sure if it helps, but on my PVM20M4U (close in model # to yours) the initial turn-on has an audible *buzz* for sure. But after that, the degauss button only produces an audible click to engage, then an audible click a few seconds later when it's done.
 
Hmm interesting, it's also worth mentioning that the neck has no glow to it when on.
So clearly no guns are even attempting to fire anything.

The screen remains black the entire time, just as if it wasn't connected to anything...
However I can hear the clicks and pops and static crackles of the tube come to life.
 
No glow usually means that the flyback isn't outputting, however many monitors will shut down the flyback if the HOT output isn't stable (or is non-existant) as a protection mechanism.

I know that doesn't do anything to help you narrow it down any....

No worries T, I'm happy to listen to any theories you may have... Supportable with hard facts or otherwise. :)
If I can't get this working I won't cry over it, just strip her down into parts (tube, neckboard, PSU) to sell as untested.

Is there no one in the US who could repair the chassis? That would be surprising, though I guess it depends how much you're happy to spend to get it going too
