WTB Sega Genesis model 1 NTSC

Want To Buy
I see these around locally (it's the version I've got/use too) all the time, what are you looking to spend (range) for one?
Next time I see one within the defined range I can scoop it for you. :)

Perfect example right here.

Do keep in mind that "HD Grafx" branded Genesis can come in two flavors... TMSS and non-TMSS.
The non-TMSS won't play well with a Sega CD or 32x I'm told, but I haven't personally tested that (mine is a TMSS).

Non-TMSS should have a shorter FCC ID, but I've yet to actually spot one in real life.

That looks like a perfect kit, also has the long FCC ID which should indicate a non-TMSS version ;)

Price is good, 2 controllers is good!

So you want me to email the dude? I've got a buddy who is coming up from RI this weekend, I can send out the scoop request. :D

that's news to me... mine is non-tmss and it seems to work a-ok with 32X and Sega CD. though to be fair I've probably spent more time piecing my Genesis setup together than I have playing it... if there is something you'd like to to test specifically let me know.

32X and CD is not on my prio list at the moment, also I'm not very familiar with the game library on those systems...
If it turns out non-working in the future I will check for another Genesis, it's not like they are expensive or anything ;)

It will also be the first Genesis i will ever own, was a Nintendo fanboy in my youth.
The main driver for me to get a Genesis now is this prjoect;

There isn't much on the 32X library worth owning IMO. there are about 40 games total and most of the good ones are just arcade ports. I think Kunckles Chaotix is probably the only must have title if you're into classic sonic games. In general you can pickup a 32X for cheap money, and you don't have to remove it to play normal Genesis games and it does enhance the graphics of some normal games too, so there's that.

The Sega CD has quite a few great original titles though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_CD_games

There's no DRM on Sega CD titles either so you can just burn them and play them. though I do wish there was a GDEMU type device for the Sega CD just for the sake of completeness, it seems just about every used Sega CD on the market has a dead drive too thankfully replacement drives are easy to find and cheap (usually <$10)

Then why didn't you link to it in your first post? :D
I left it for other forum members, who might be interested in a Genesis/MD. But you are right maybe I should have posted this in the console section of the forum.

I just got the MegaAMP mod done to my model 2. Better video AND best audio that way (moot point now that I'm on RGB for the video), plus I think the form factor is better, especially with the model 2 CD which is the one that's far more common to find working.

The best is what I've got... HD Grafx branded version 1 that's been RGB bypassed. ;)

The model 2 with a MegaAMP has better video then a stock version 1 and should have the same audio...
But bypassed is where it's at, totally removes any/all jailbar/rainbow effects (which is interference created by the onboard Sony CXA encoder).

Now when talking about a 32x setup, yes I would say the model 2 with a MegaAMP is better.
The bypass effects the 32x overlay centering and distorts the picture, simply put bypass CANNOT easily be used in conjunction with a 32x.

Thankfully the 32x library of games is awful, for example...
The worst port of Doom (enemies always face forward and in fact have no frames of animation present to face any other direction).
First (of what would become many) horrible Sonic spin-offs in that Knuckles "rubber band ring" game.
Night Trap Enhanced version (requires all three Genesis+CD+32x) that looks on par with the 3DO version but has censorship (released post Liberman hearings) and new/reshot opening.

On the other hand, you have the best home version of Virtua Racing, the excellent Stellar Assault / Shadow Squadron, and Star Wars Arcade.

Sad news, I heard back from the Craigslist seller above... Missed it. :(
But I'll keep an eye out, they are super common.
