As far as I/O boards go. The sega JVS to Jamma I/O board is not liked by games like Virtua Fighter 5. It will say no JVS I/O Board found if one is hooked up. It requires atleast a Sega JVS Type 1 I/O board in order for the game to boot at all.
As far as needing the JVS Baseboard installed in your Lindbergh Yellow. I have heard some games can be run without it, but I do not know as mine came with one and I always connect my I/O board to it.
Edit: Looks like the sound card is a special one. Although it has a creative sound chip on it, there is Sega Branding and part number on it. Something tells me the Lindbergh would not work without the specific card, if the game requires it of course.
