I got a board not too long ago from Facebook. It was in relatively good shape but loud as a damn banshee.
When I went to remove the 40mm fans, I was in for a nice surprise. Someone had already replaced them with 40x40x20 instead of 40x40x15, cut up the fan housings and did a botch job on the wiring.
In their infinite wisdom, they also superglued the fans to the heatsinks. I went to pry them off, but the heatsinks started to come off the board, so I immediately stopped working on it.
I probably will have to remove them completely and soak them in a solvent to dissolve the glue. Before I do that, I want to make sure I don't damage the board.

- What is holding the heatsinks to the chips?
- Any other suggestions besides complete removal?
