man I've bought 3 Hikarus, all 3 were working before shipping and 2 of them had the glue mod and all 3 arrived with floating CPUs

Ouch!!!! Ken doesnt repair these anymore. He said its just not cost effective to repair these any longer because of the equipment needed and time involved.
 
I'm guessing the problem with these is the weight of the heatsinks pulling the chips off the board?
that combined with the fact that they didn't properly solder the chips to the mobo in the first place, so the connection is very weak and prone to separation.

had they properly prepped/solder the chips it wouldn't be an issue, but the fact that the heat syncs are simply glued to the top of the chips and not mechanically attached to the mobo exacerbates it.
 
Yep. The chips were not tinned by the manufacturer so Sega just attached them to the pcb using a reflow sequence. Bottom line the solder sticks to the pcb but not to the chip itself.
