Welcome to my System 16 necromancy thread. I've been keen to get into arcade boards for a while now. I saw this board going cheap as not working/ for parts and I could see it was going to be a big repair project but it would be rewarding to save another arcade board from the trash pile.

As we can see, extensive oxidation of traces and components. Most of the electrolytic caps had either leaked or had fallen off the board altogether.

First step was to remove all the remaining electrolytics before they leaked their guts everywhere and caused further damage. Some of the film caps and ceramic caps were also heavily damaged and practically fell off to the touch, where was this thing stored?! I proceeded to remove every cap on the board (something I've never had to do for a motherboard before). Next was to remove the heavily oxidised optocouplers. They disintegrated when probed!

After several passes with distilled water and bicarb, a round in the dishwasher and a scrub with isopropyl alcohol, we can see pcb again. Some rust still remains, that stuff is very hard to remove.

The next step is to check over the FD1094 which is most likely suicided by now as the rest of the board has been left neglected for so long...
