Soul Calibur II sounds awful?

Got my SC2 hooked up and running, but the sound is terrible! Is it always that bad? I've tried a different amp, different speakers, mono chanel, stereo, yada yada. Nothing. Other games sound fine on the same setup.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

If you run it on 256 you need to make sure its in 246+ mode, on the motherboard there are 3 pins, you need to short two of them to change the mode.

Turn down the volume on the I/O

Yeah, as far as I can tell I have left and right channels going where they should. I have a CPS2 that I can swap to and it sounds fine.
