I own a Namco System 11 PCB with Soul Edge ver.II, however I have a hard time identifying the board comparing it to the MAME documentation and I'm curious to know if this may be an undumped board or perhaps there was some pcb mixing by a previous owner.

The motherboard has a sticker that says "SO1 VER.A" this would identify the game as "Soul Edge (Japan, SO1/VER.A)", equivalent to romset "souledgeja"
But, the main screen on the game clearly displays "Soul Edge ver.II" and both Hwang and Cervantes are selectable which means the program roms are version II (data roms are common in all versions).

Based on the naming convention, my PCB should correspond to a Japanese version of Soul Edge ver.II, but on the MAME list, version II is only listed as either US or Asia version (respectively as SO3 and SO4) but my motherboard is SO1

Can anyone help me identifying my set?
I can provide pictures of the board if needed.

The version is displayed in the test menu.

Stickers can be wrong... you need to go by the version displayed in test mode as nem described.

to decode "SO" = Soul Edge and the number in the 3rd position is the region
1 = Japan
2 = World
3 = USA
4 = Asia

Seems you're right! we have the US and World Version C in MAME but not the JP version C

Anyone know if Version 1 can be converted to Version 2? I have a version 1 up for sale & seems like people want to buy V2.
If possible is it just a rom that needs to be burned?

theoretically yes as they use the same security key.

you need to swap out the 4 Flash ROMs on the mobo then the sound ROM.

This requires some serious soldering skills and some specialized adapters for the flash ROMs though.
Part of the reason there are so many undumped versions of System 11 and System 12 games is because dumping the ROMs is quite intense

These 5 chips need to be reflashed:

Thanks for the information, that sounds like allot of work but a fun project for someone more skilled in that area.
I appreciate the feedback on this, thank you.
