I know of a great repair method for leather vinyl that doesn't involve a patch if you are interested. About $15 in materials and will hold up. Did it on black leather armchair I have.
Would it work to re-upholster some??

Don't want to derail thread here, but recovering these (in something like real leather) should be dead easy if the damage is not limited to a single spot/tear. You can pick up scrap cuts of hide for fairly cheap and all you would really need to attach it would be a air stapler and/or some contact cement.

I've done a little leather work and since this is just a flat a square it would be totally possible as a DIY. Either that or you find a local car upholstery shop and they should do it fairly cheap. My 2 cents.
