Tekken 4 stuck on "Please wait" screen

Working on a Tekken 4 cab for my boss, and the game simply won't boot.

It says something along the lines of "Please wait, Tekken 4 will start shortly" and just sits there.

Any ideas?

The dvd drive may be dying, try changing the dvd drive with another one or check the power supply voltages.

Can I use just any DVD drive, or does it need to be a specific model?

Tekken 4 is incredibly particular about dvd drives. IDE DVD-ROMs for the 246/256 that do and don't work I’d link directly to a comment halfway down page 1 by @l_oliveira but I’m on mobile. The thread does have several that work, but finding a working one is getting more challenging each year. The atapi ode is a solid alternative at this point. ATAPI/IDE ODE Testing

I may dig my 246 out and swap drives to test, if I can find it. If so I'll see what I can find for those models and go from there!

I found that LG GSA-H55N or GSA-H42N work well for tekken 4 and there’re the cheapest ide drives to get right now as well

You guys were right. Swapped in my DVD drive and it worked fine.

Ordering a new one.

My working one is a LiteOn HDP118.
