What's new
So I got everything set up I had to get a rpi4 hoping it would work. I plugged in the rpi to test before I hooked up to a machine but the screen just gets like.. unbelievably hot

Edit : Amazon sent me the wrong fkn screen vcc and ground are swapped

And do I need the 12/5v line plugged into ode I’m assuming
i made that mistake first time round

So here is my issue, multi is made, all connected, however nothing boots , it writes the dongles fine, but when it comes to loading games i get either a blank screen , or some games i got boot error , i tried loading from Flash keys and from micro SD , i did upgrade ode fw also no change

hmm some are going to Namco screen and then black so now am wondering if my 256 is on its way out :(

Hello,
I'm interested in this project, is the anyone who has spare? I will need the board to built.
And what game could I load with the 246? Is there a list of games working?
Thanks a lot.

Is it possible to update the dongle images hosted on the Pi?

Based on the other thread looking for an ENG Soul Calibur 3, I'd like to update an image to include this dongle instead so I have an English option, also seems to be missing a Tekken 4 Ver. D dongle with everything unlocked unless I'm missing something?

Hi : all

What parts do you need to build a kit. Is this pcb just the game selector & you need a usb multi dongle and another item also?

Hello guys
Thanks for your great efforts to make this happen.

İs there anybody have the ODE ?

I'm really busy nowadays like hell and i want a complete setup. ODE + raspberry Pİ together if it is possible.
İf someone want to sell 2 kits to me, please inform me. Thanks 🙏

You need the ODE Simulator off Electric_monk , the programable dongle from Brizzo (this is worth having to anybody with a 2x6) and then the parts that blade listed for the pcb , put them all together and your away , and its great

I’m still wrestling with this setup. I’ve got the multi installed in a 256 and everything works EXCEPT dongle writing. I’ve double checked that the usb cables are data (using same cable used to rewrite the brizzo dongle on my pc, which never has an issue.) It works great if I write the dongle manually… but the rpi (3b+) won’t rewrite.

IDE emulator has the updated firmware. I’ve quadruple-checked all cables, made sure they are data carrying, etc. Just won’t rewrite the brizzo dongle.

Any ideas?
🙏🙏🙏

Hi @FrAshi - when you plug the raspberry pi into a hdmi monitor - what output do you see when you try to select a new game?

Matt

Let me try that when I’ve got some time and report back! Thank you!

Ok- error seems to be:

SYS2X6 USB device not found!
[ 361.181065] rc.local[455]: SYS2X6_host: failed to open FTDI PORT!

Edit: this is the same that comes up when the dongle is not plugged into to USB port, so confirmed that it’s not recognizing the dongle. Computer has no problem rewriting it.

Edit 2: ok, I took a longer cable and went directly from the dongle to the pi, bypassing the passthrough connector on the multi mount, and I’m in business! So now I’m wondering if the passthrough somehow connector is faulty? Or the pi has a problem with micro-usb cable that my pc works fine with. Either way, I’ve got it isolated to a couple things, so troubleshooting about be quick.

Final edit/problem solved: It was the micro usb to usb cable from the dongle. Works fine for dongle rewriting on pc, but not on the pi somehow 🤷‍♂️

Thanks Matthew for steering me right!

**REAL FINAL: Actually it turned out it wasn’t the cable… after a few game switches, the dongle rewriting seems to stop working. Power cycle seems to fix it. Wild ride!

Definitely weird - glad you got it working most of the time! I have noticed that the whole setup appears to be a bit temperamental - better with a 256 though, compared to a 246!

Is the ftdi_sio kernel module being loaded? That may conflict with sys2x6_host. There should be a blacklist entry for the module, or at least call "modprobe -r ftdi_sio" first, I think.

So actually it isn’t really working and it wasn’t the cable after all lol! Thought I had it figured out but nope.

Now the problem seems to be that it is underpowered… I’ll put up the recurring error later. Have tried two good Sun PSUs but am concerned about turning the voltage too high… although I understand that the extra stuff plugged in for the multi draws more power but don’t want to fry anything. What are you running your 5 and 3.3 at with the multi?

When underpowered, the pi seems to skip functions or freeze. I’m guessing that this is more of the culprit for dongle writing/recognizing than cable issues.

Temperamental is right! 🤗

On my bench, I use a CBOX to power the Namco 256, and in my cabinet, I use a arcade power supply, and then an adapter to provide power to the Namco. In both cases, I provide enough 5V rail so that that the Namco is stable. It isn't uncommon for my Rpi to say "undervoltage detected", but all of this isn't very power intensive for it. Do you by any chance have another Rpi you can test with? I haven't had a situation where the Rpi just froze up before.

Tried with my other pi, exact same issue - very inconsistent recognition of SYS2X6 USB device - about 5% of the time. Tried different data cables. :(
