Hello all!

I'm getting a 18 Wheeler standup cab, complete with Naomi and game, (my 5 years old son will be SO happy...)
and would like to know if you can play King of Road 66 on it by simply swapping cardridges.
(the first one runs on Naomi 1 so i would need to install a Naomi 2 instead).
I read one can play Initial D (The first i guess) as well on it.

It's my first racing cab so advices are very welcome.

Thanks and Cheers,
Jean

unlike joystick game driving games are not at all standardized in terms of how the controls are mapped to the game board.
the benefit here is that these are both sega games released around the same era, so there is a very good possibility that they are mapped the same.

At Minimum you'll need to swap to a NOAMI 2 and get a cart (or CF or net boot setup) to play the new game.

What you'll want to do is get the manuals for each game and compare the wiring diagrams to see if they're the same. Check the steering wheel, pedals, shifter, buttons, and the microphone connections.

giving this a quick look myself these games use different JVS IO boards, that could be a problem or it could also be ok, some games will check for a specific IO board and others will not. The Steering accell and brakes all look like they're mapped to the same analog channels which is really good. It's hard to tell if the shifter and buttons, and lamps are mapped differently as you'll need to get the IO board pinouts to compare.

it looks like 18WAPT uses a Type 2 IO: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/sega-jvs-i-o-type-2-dip-switch-settings-and-pinout.873/
and KOR66 uses a Type 1 IO: https://www.arcade-projects.com/thr...p-switch-settings-and-pinout.873/#post-327591

Yeah, it should work. You'll have to add one more button though.

In Route 66 you control the CB radio with the Start, Horn and Wiper buttons. The Wiper button is the one that's missing in 18 Wheeler.

It's just the Deluxe cab that uses the Type 2 IO. My upright 18 Wheeler has a Type 1.

Absolutly incredible reply, thanks a TON.
It's much more complicated than i thought O_o
Seems it's better to get a King of road 66 machine and then play 18 Wheeler rather than the other way around.
