CPS2 battery explosion board

Hi All,

I have a board given to me last weekend that is a JAP SFZ2 that seems to have had its battery explode inside.

I notice that alot of the solder is dry and that some of the gold traces are missing. I'm assuming this board is going in the bin?

Pics are attached - Is it even worth trying to clean this one up? was not working when given to me.

It might be salvageable-it doesn’t look like battery acid ate into much from what I’m seeing in the pics.

Give the area around the battery a good scrub with vinegar, toothbrush and Q Tips to neautralize any battery acid, then rinse with isopropyl alcohol. After it dries, install decrypted CPU EPROMs for the game (so it can boot up and run without a battery), power it on, and see what happens.

If the game doesn’t run, or if it runs but has glitches, break out a multimeter and start continuity testing both ends of each board trace that looks like it could be damaged. Any damaged lines that don’t show continuity with the meter can be patched with magnet wire.

So you can brute force this one by beeping out every damaged trace and bridging them with bodge wires.
CPS2 boards are creeping up on price, but this repair is probably more for fun than profit.
