I got a pair of cps3 non working CPS3 and was told I can use one for parts. I decided to repair the one with the simm 6 error. The boards have previously been worked on.
I did each of these step then test the simm in the darksoft menu.
- Replace 3 missing filter caps and redid the previous patch work
- Reflow and clean socket 6
- swap the simm around as there is a mixture of original and repro. In my experience the repro are a fraction thinner.
- Replace the (4) 3383. All (4) tested bad. Simm 6 is finally detected
Wrote 3s to it and it booted up. After power cycling a few times I notice the odd graphic glitch in the attact in the 1st pass
- Replace the ss ram at 9F. This fix the glitch
Played 1 round and notice the colour is a little off.
- Did a memory and color ram tested NG 24080000
- Replace both colour ram at 8E and 9E
- Replace them again from another donor
- Some of the traces went to the custom ppu at 2G. Pin 183 and 184 was not making good contact. Reflow and now I have the full colour range. I Reflow the rest of the pins for safe measure. I did a 24h burn test in attact. Everything tested good
