anybody have this game? I heard it's pretty rare but that doesn't always translate to expensive. Could this game be converted from another Kaneko game?

I think I remember @ekorz had finally managed to snag a copy a bit back.

it's about $300-$400 from what I've seen, FoF seems to be more expensive, but the first one comes up way less.

EDIT: Actually, I've got it backwards, the FoF with the factory chips comes up way less. I think the ones I've seen are the first one with home updates.

Anyway, I don't collect fighting games, but is this one really good? It seems sort of generic!

As ekorz said, it's an easy romswap from the base Jackie Chan Kung Fu Master game, and well worth the upgrade. FoF is a very fun game, but definitely try it out via emulation first to see if you think it's worth the cost... pick it up if you ever find either board cheaply though!

~$400 USD sounds right. It's incredibly stupid, but very fun. Worth picking up if you goofy, semi-obscure fighters.

Jackie Chan is it’s own hardware but if you can find a v1 Kung Fu Master it’s just a rom swap to Fist of Fire.

Last one sold on YAJ: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h443827550

I’ve seen it go for $100 more though
Necro bump for @ekorz. I got a Kung Fu Master PCB on its way and I probably want to convert it to Fists of Fire. Is it a simple case of replacing the EPROMs (hopefully socketed)?

I read somewhere that a few chips are a different configs than the ones on Kung Fu Master? Did you happen to have a list of ROMs needed burning/chip sizes handy? TIA.

I think the swap is just the 10 roms that differ in mame. GALs should be the same. I don't believe any of the chips are socketed to begin with -- time to get a hakko de-soldering gun :)

My board has 12 replaced roms, but the one I'd bought was faulty and replacing the other audio roms was part of the fix. If you have any trouble figuring out which roms to use, lmk @djsheep.

Thanks @ekorz — will get to desoldering after I have had my fun with the original game.

BTW, google gave me the answer I was after, U164 and U165 in the MAME driver are listed as 27C2001/020 which is right for Kung-Fu Master but in Fists of Fire these two are actually 27C4001/040.

That info is in the MAME driver too; under jchan2 (FoF) those roms are correctly listed as 0x080000 (4mbit).
You're right that they are twice as large as the ones used on jchan though.

Code:
    ROM_LOAD16_BYTE( "j2g1x1.164", 0x1600000, 0x080000, CRC(66a7ea6a) SHA1(605cbc1eb50fb0decbea790f2a11e999d5fde762) ) // SPA-7A female portraits
    ROM_LOAD16_BYTE( "j2g1x2.165", 0x1600001, 0x080000, CRC(660e770c) SHA1(1e385a6ee83559b269d2179e6c247238c0f3c850) ) // SPA-7B female portraits

Is Kung-Fu Master really that borked I should upgrade to Fists of Fire?

I need to get my MAME driver reading skills up too. Thanks again @nem and @ekorz.

Jackie Chan (all three) are unplayable in Kung Fu master. What’s the point??!!
