MV-1F World Heroes 2 sound issue but only when region set to US

I have a sound issue with an MV-1F board that seems weird to me. Using an original World Heroes 2 cart and Unibios 4.0, everything works flawlessly when I play the game with the BIOS region set to Europe or Japan. When I switch it to US, sound cuts out after the "Winners don't do drugs" screen pops up. Soft-resetting and changing the region again does not restore sound; I have to turn it off and on again.

Anybody seen anything like this before? I am using the stereo out on the board.

I will try swapping the original BIOS back in later.
 
Maybe the backup ram is corrupted, try to clear the backup ram, see if it solve your problem.
 
Thanks for your suggestion. I cleared the backup RAM, set the region to USA, and played a few rounds with working sound. After I left the game on for about 20 minutes, the sound died again on that same screen.

After that I powered off the board and switched it back to Europe and everything works again.

The mystery deepens.
 
I tried WH2 and got the same sound issue if the unibios 4 is set to US region.
I think it's a bug with the unibios 4, with stock US bios and unibios 3.3 set to US region the sound is ok.
