Hi everyone. I got a new cab and a big new project. Daytona 2: Battle On The Edge.
This is a bit more of a refresh than a restoration. But I wanted a place to document my journey with this new machine.
I got this cab for a great price and it is in fantastic condition. Very minor stress cracks around the seat bolts. The monitor looks like it was never degaussed, but it's bright, has no burn, and has great geometry.
The wheel, pedals, view controls, shifter, speakers, and everything else is working perfectly.
It is, however, missing the coin key. I'll try to source one that fits, but I might have to drill it. Hoping I can find a key.
Getting this to my house was quite the chore. The gentlemen I bought it from had it on a second floor, up a curved staircase. He bought it new and it hadn't moved in over 17 years. It's been family owned and in this house the entire time.
For anyone who hasn't moved one of these... they are HEAVY. Really heavy!
Between the stairs and the weight, I had to make it as light as possible while making sure I'm not going to destroy any parts of the cab, or this gentlemen's house (which he just sold).
This is the cleanest tube chassis I have ever seen (apart from the ones I've cleaned).
The seat is MUCH heavier than a real racing seat.
I got a U-Haul van because of the rubbery floor. I took one of the levelers down from the base so it wouldn't roll around. And I used cords to fasten most everything else in place. Nothing moved in transit.
What a hot mess. I'm going to be cleaning each part as I go. There are some scuffs and cracks in the corners of the MDF which I want to fix.
A driving cab was something I've wanted this entire time. The space and struggle to get it here was insane, but this is an experience I don't really find a replica of with any other setup. I can't wait to get this all fixed up better than new.
