Planning to go in depth with this once I can get some decent photos from my next teardown.

First tip is if you don't have the official tool to remove the cap, or a 3D printer to print one you can just modify the spring in a clothes peg with some pliers to make one.

i'll ask re-emptivly,
does anybody make replacement shafts?

Love the LS30 joysticks, I've had a couple over the years where the rotary shaft ( https://arcadefixit.com/product.sc?productId=3685&categoryId=331 ) was rusted/fused to the outer rotary shaft sleeve ( https://arcadefixit.com/product.sc?productId=3693&categoryId=331 ). Even after spraying WD-40 inside and using duct tape to protect the surface and pliers to try and unscrew the outer shaft from the rotary inside, could not get it loose. Once these joysticks are taken apart and cleaned up, they work great!

yes, they have a vivid imagination with those prices!
i'm tempted to work out how to make some using LS32 as a starting platform!
i think you only need to create a double-layer shaft and a switch-mount
then you could make them not only with the 12way, but also rotary encoders, pots and even left/right switches for games like xybots. :)
