Totally get why someone might not want to build the same product forever, and we see a similar pattern in a lot of creators who move on. But if a creator is no longer planning to monetize a creation, it would be very cool if they would open source it both for DIY and for other sellers.

With the magic gate stuff I have no idea how practical it would be to open source it (it might not matter, who knows). No matter what I hope the torch is passed on somehow if brizzo is done making them.

@brizzo forgive me if I might be saying something completely wrong here, but I do recall reading on this forum that you guys did put the code up on GitHub once, and it was taken down, is that correct? Have you ever considered publishing it some other way?

I do own one of your dongles, and it works perfectly. Too bad they aren't being sold at the moment, I'd buy another one in a flash.

It was for another method to convert or dump 2X6 dongles using a different device, I do believe it’s still available but only the application, not the source code.

This is most likely the main issue

"Supply is limited as each unit is assembled from a donor System 246/256 dongle, re-using several internal parts."

Yeah, that could be the issue but a lot of possible donor cards are popping up on aliexpress that can be used but at the same time, he and others involved in the project could be super busy with other stuff, idk 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I purchased a Battle Gear 3 dongle for under $50 so I can have one in case someone comes up with a new / home brew way of doing this.

Yeah Im looking for one too. I would buy 2 (or assemble if anybody wants to just throw the components into a bag) if given the chance for my arcade in pinellas park florida.

I'm down for 2 as well... (if we're ligning up for pre-orders) :D

That guy should be spending money in Las Vegas casinos now, and he doesn't have the heart to read our information.

I thought it used regular PS2 MagicGate memory cards to re-use the Sony chips? Or does it have to be a proper Namco dongle?

If it is a regular MagicGate memory card, I wonder if something like the upcoming MemCard Pro2 from 8bitmods actually does implement the encryption properly and could be used for that? I own their MemCard Pro for the PS1 and it's an absolutely amazingly compact piece of engineering.

The Encryption key is different on PS2 Memory Cards, vs Namco ones, it has a different hardware profile, you can take the Memory supposedly and move it from a Genuine Namco Key/Dongle and move it to a PS2 card, re-program it, and then move it back to the original cart... but that's a slot of surface mount soldering, and software / know how that I don't have a firm grasp of... if you're interested I suggest you start a new thread that talks more about the nitty gritty of how to do it. But from what I understand you need an original even for the Multi-Cart... you just give it a way to write to the Flash memory via a USB interface chip.

I think your statement is correct. According to my personal experience, I think the two chips of Sony may be the same, just a slight change in programming. For example, the IDE interface cable is the same for pc and 2x6 hardware. Little difference, and many Sony files are just an unknown compression format.
First look at a group of IDE cable socket comparison pictures
