What's new
For Sale
I think compatibility is the same, it's just a new ODE as there's currently none available. It's all about the software here (Swiss).. :)

time will tell, would be a shame to develop a fullsize ODE for $150-200ish (I guess?) that does nothing more than a $3 SD adapter.
But from that pic on Twitter it looks to be a full drive replacement so I think it should be possible...

If it supports audio streaming count me interested!

That's what everyone is saying it does.
So definitely different from the SD adapter.
The SD adapter actually does support audio streaming, just in software via Swiss - but performance is terrible and most games are unplayable.

The (current) ODEs don't support audio streaming, but have great performance and only the handful of audio streaming titles don't work.

Support is a weird term.

My understanding is that the SD adapter supports it but it stutters and isn't worth using because the bus is too small.

But the new ode has a larger bus and can handle it properly.

Or did I misunderstood somewhere along the way?

Pretty much correct, but I haven't seen where the new ODE has been discussed aside from that Twitter post.

WKF/Wasp would likely need a new firmware to support audio streaming, SD Gecko "technically" supports it via software in Swiss but it's too slow.

@kuze I'd thought I'd read somewhere on Twitter that Swiss had some slight reworking to take advantage of the larger bus. But maybe I'd read that it needed some reworking.

Price is $80, proper info here: https://shop.dansprojects.com/gc-loader.html
  • Easily launch homebrew and your existing library of games.
  • Installation is fast and simple (does require basic soldering skills)
  • Full Audio Streaming Support.
  • Swiss is supported
  • Faster loading times compared to original DVD drive.
  • Firmware is updatable and a simple procedure
This project is possible because of Daniel Kraak (meneerbeer), without him this project would not exist. I thank him for his continued support in the Gamecube community.

I would also like to thank Emukidid for creating (also any other contributors) swiss. Though Swiss is not required or shipped with this product it is recommended to use. Without Swiss the GC Loader would be hindered in many ways.

GC Loader
is Gamecube DVD drive replacement that allows you boot homebrew and your existing library of games on DOL-001 and DOL-101 models. No longer do you need to worry about when your laser will burn out on your DVD drive. The GC Loader is a full replacement and acts exactly* like an original DVD drive but uses memory cards for its media.
*Some titles will load noticeably faster compared to the original DVD drive. GC Loader also has full audio streaming support.

Basic Usage:

FAT32 format a 512GB* or lower memory card. Place an ISO file on the memory card called boot.iso and insert the memory card.
If you would like to take advantage of a full menu, Swiss is needed. Simply place swiss on the memory card called boot.iso. Drag your other homebrew and backups to memory and insert it in the GC Loader. Swiss will automatically boot and you will have access to your library.
* 1TB cards are untested but should work. There might be some memory cards that will not work but is not expected.

Capability:

Over 400 tittles have been tested but there might be some issues that still exist that we have not found. The firmware is easily updated so if there are any problems they will be fixed. We expect and strive for 100% compatibility.

Installation:

A flex cable is supplied with each unit that is easily soldered to the bottom of the Gamecube’s DVD drive port. The flex lays over through hole pins so soldering is simple. You can desolder your existing DVD drive connector and solder this to bottom of the GC-Loader but this requires advanced desoldering skills. The flex installation performs identical to this.
Existing wasp installations can plug directly into the GC Loader. However it is recommened you remove your existing setup and install the new flex for a cleaner installation.

A full length video will be linked here in the future. But the total installation is fast, simple and only requires basic soldering skills.

Ah so it's Daniël who finally worked it out, cool. Sounds very promising :)

Looks promising! Signed up to be notified on the site when stock is available.

RIP your trade
Sorry to hijack this thread @rewrite :/
LOL, it's fine.

I didn't expect much to come of it. Just maybe someone would want to experiment with it and tossed me something random. We do have folks on here who are incredible with electronics and like to tinker so it was worth a shot.

I'm excited for this new ode, and hopefully it goes better than the one BAC ripped me off with.

To clarify, the ODE does not need swiss to run properly. So no extra patches are needed to be done for games to play properly w/audio streaming.

Using swiss in conjunction will add a great addition as it has amazing features.

I have only dealt with him once, I guess I'm lucky I got a working wasp from him. Sorry for all people this guy has duped :(
I have ordered 30 of the new serial port -> SD adapters and am waiting for the PCBs and parts, so I'll be able to sell some when they arrive. I've already sold my WASP in anticipation. Badassconsoles has really tainted my gamecube enjoyment.
You know those work exactly the same as the SD Gecko right? The serial port is on the same bus. Those things only cost like €2 on aliexpress.
I tried last night with the newest SWISS and a 16GB microSD card in the serialport2.
Games load very quickly and FMV is flawless (tested all the intro and start videos in Resident Evil2).

The new code in the latest SWISS is what we can thanks for these speed improvements.

I am selling some of the SD2SP PCB's (black colour) so if anyone wants one MSG me. I will sell them for $13 AUD + shipping (3$ for AUS, 5$ worldwide). I am asking more on eBay, almost double 8)
