What's new

@Darksoft has any testing been done to confirm if the multi will fit inside of one of the official gray plastic CPS1 cases?
Are people really planning to gut a CPS1.5 and stuff a multi in it? CPS1.5 is so valuable now, it seems a bit sacrilege, esp. if they start tearing labels off. At least with CPS2 there are bajillion of them.

not the Q-Sound case... the normal CPS1 case:

Even more rare :(

Obviously people can do whatever they want with their own stuff, I just hate to see these disappear. There are bound to be multiple shops pumping out acrylic kits for the multi.

are they? literally have of my CPS1 boards have them and the donor I plan to use for the multi is a Capcom Worlds 2 so I figured it'd be nice to have the multi in the case.

I also ask because if I ever get my vacuum form machine working I'll be able to make repos... though there's less of a reason to if they don't fit the multi.

I feel the same way!

The complexity of the real CPS1.5/CPS Changer case it going to be a deal breaker for repros.
However the Capcom World case with its simplicity could actually be reproduced fairly accurately via vacuum forming.

Not only that, but the CW case also came in two form factors (long/short) supporting all three variations of the CPS1 A-board (long/short/dash).
Where as the official 1.5/Changer case only supports short form factor (short/dash) A-boards (it also needs that funkey JAMMA IO board thing, which is a stupid design choice IMO).
Speaking of which, I have access to a commercial vacuum form machine.
Do we need to get you a CW case to experiment with?
I offered to loan one to @twistedsymphony back before he got his own, but he declined out of fear the copy process would damage the original.
Naturally I don't want it damaged, but if that can be avoided?...

From what I've seen the only real difference between the long and short versions is the bottom panel... and that can be 100% repoed today pretty easily with a laser cutter, it's just a flat piece of plastic with some holes in it.

In-fact, if someone with a laser cutter wants to take on making them I can draw up the cad for it.

Were there any games that used this case other than Capcom World 2 and Varth? I feel like those are the only two I've ever seen in it.

For what it's worth I've never seen that case before either. I am in the camp of preserving official cases if it can be helped. Would buy vacuum formed repros.

Maybe I'm missing something but how is using the case to house a multi somehow preventing it from being preserved?
If left as is and completely reversible then that's fine. However, typically with these cases we see modifications for hdmi ports, lcd selectors, etc. There is a HDMI mod for the cps1 already. Figure there will be some selectors and other such gizmos in the future once it's released as well.

This isn't going to be popular, but I'm just going to type it anyway because when have I ever held back (feel free to downvote)...

That Capcom World game sucks, and I'll scrap 1,000x of 'em for no other reason then I fucking feel like it.
Preservation of shit is still shit, who cares get over it.

You do realize that I built a whole business around designing and selling 3D printed parts for the explicit reason that it keeps people from cutting up their original cases.

I don't understand how my asking if the multi will fit inside one of these (an ask, I might add, I was making to ensure that I can use it without modifying it) all of a sudden turned into I'm ruining these cases by doing so.

Those were the only two official releases. There was a location test/proto of Quiz & Dragons that used the same case type.

Hey guys, I think we're all on the same page here!

That being said, after getting my Varth, I think this case sucks compared to all other Capcom cases and I wouldn't want it to be the one to hold my multi.

I agree its not the sexiest of Capcom cases, but you can't have the official CPS1.5 case...
As I mentioned above that would require the JAMMA IO board thingie, and that would require using a 1.5 A-board.
Remember you CANT use the 1.5 A-board for the DS multi as it lacks the ADPCM audio section, so that's totally out/not an option.

You can't use the CPS2 cases for obvious reasons I don't need to explain, so what's left then?
Officially from Capcom that CW/Varth case is all we ever got for CPS1.

Maybe we could redesign/reverse engineer the CPS1.5 case to fit a normal CPS1 A-board (which tho long or short cuz you can't support both).
But then you're talking about getting a mold made to start an injection run (can't be 3D printed).
I believe the mold alone starts at around 10,000$ or so? The price per unit will go down substantially, once the mold is made that is.

I'm always open to new case designs. My point is that the Varth case blows and I doubt would even work with a multi as there is no room for anything under there!
