good day to all.
i would like to find out some infos on the card reader for the initial d games(6,7 and 8)
i would like to know what power supply is needed to power the units and and where can i source one and well as the serial cable to connect the unit to the ring edge.
i am looking to create a card reader emulator to work with the game. thanks for any infos contributed.
below is a pic of the card reader i currently own...

thanks in advance for any help offered

That card reader looks to be one from a Star Horse.
Although it will print cards for ID6 and ID7, it wont print on ID8 and generates an error when ejecting the card but saves OK.

I use a Cosel LCA100S-24 PSU.
It uses JST VH connectors for power.

For the serial cable I used a cheap adapter from eBay and reused some stranded wire with the connector attached. It may have been repurposed from some old Naomi cabling? I can't remember to be honest. Sorry I don't know what the name of the connector that plugs into the card reader is.

Hope that helps.

Card reader emulator are already out there What do you anticipate to do different?

Taken from that thread:

I don't quite understand why, but I often get PMs about this project asking me directly for help/updates/summaries. Anything I have to share is shared here. Read up and ask questions here if you can't figure it out, so the next person with the same question has a reference. Chances are that someone else can answer besides me. I tend not to reply to these questions via PM because it comes across to me as someone asking me to give them a personalized summary, and I don't have time for that.

For the record: there are aspects of this overall project that I have not released publicly, like an ID4-8 script and the RPi frontend that currently supports WMMT1-3DX+. If/when I'm ready to do so, it will be done here. Please don't PM me asking for updates. My main reason for not jumping into larger public releases with the frontend at this point is because I have little time or patience to manage the support questions that will inevitably come up. I have worked in support roles professionally in the past and have no interest in doing so in my free time.

Sorry if I sound cranky. I am and it's unrelated to this wonderful community. However, this project is low on my personal concerns list at the moment. I appreciate others' enthusiasm and interest in it.

The info how to emulate the card reader for ID4-8 has not been publicly released and I'm not aware of anything else publicly released that will work on original RE hardware.

with that being said it would seem like this info is only valid for initial D naomi games. in any case im thrying to connect the actual card reader for initial d 8 to a pc to get the memory logs to figur out how it works. and hopefully get card data dumps to analyze.... @Ringo would you happen to have a link where i could purchase the psu that you recommended?....most of the links i found has them sold out.

I should have read better... I saw "Initial D" and actually double checked the title of the thread and "it matched". Sorry and hey, good luck with the search.

Not same

The gamoover is stand alone arduino based (winter's is rpi)

Connects to ringedge using serial cable, basically replaces the card reader and has a lcd display so you can scroll to different cards/saves

I dont think winter's does rfid which would be newer initial d (4/5/6/7/8 ).

I was going to install actual rfid card readers but reader and cards are super expensive so wasn't worth it.

Com1 is ffb, com2 is card reader on ringedge. No difference than regular computer.

You will need a usb to serial.adapter and set usb port as com2

PM Agaynte, and order card reader.

Card reader needs to be powered, +5vdc or +12vdc, can't remember but one them.

Enable card reader in test menu.

Connect serial cable to com2

Boot game, start a gane and when promoted to insert card press enter on card reader board.

That's it.

The device has memory allocated for both magnetic card reader and rfid.

Have to scroll.to start of rfid, spot 40?

All info is on that link anyways so i won't repeat here.

Google translate it
