My CPS2 A board’s fan sounds like a jet engine. Was wondering if anyone had suggestions on replacements.

Yeah, I saw that but saw it was 2015, I didn’t realize that it was still being updated, that’s my bad.

Gelid 6 silent fan working well here. Done a few of them now.

FYI, it looks like your fan is oriented to blow into the case rather than blowing hot air out as originally assembled.

If you’re keeping the board set in a cabinet I would recommend replacing with a fan that moves at least as much air as stock and learning to live with the noise. If your setup is outside of a cabinet you can go with a fan that is quieter but moves less air. A popular choice is the Pabst fan that is whisper quiet and moves over 11cfm compared to the stock fan which moves 22cfm.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but is the fan only necessary because of the plastic case? Has anyone ever tried decasing both boards and running without a fan?

The CPS1 hardware doesn’t have a case nor fan and isn’t radically dissimilar compared to CPS2, however, there seems to be a higher rate of failure for the custom Capcom chip on the CPS1 compared to CPS2. I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying the higher rate of failure is due to potentially more heat in the CPS1, especially given the difference in age of the two platforms but it’s possible.

I’d be interested to see if anyone has run tests to determine efficacy of case and fan on CPS2 compared to bare boardset

Hmm yeah, I just noticed the logo label on the inside on that pic, good point. Pretty sure the airflow was outwards, I'll check.
