Hi everyone! Would you be able to tell if this is irreparable damage to the motherboard? Do you think the Altera Chip may be damaged? Or just the 315-6188 to the left of it? Can a
TLC272CP serve as a replacement IC?

Would a BIOS write a serial number to the 315-6188 after replacement, or do I need to write to the IC with an EEPROM? Forgive my Noob-ness, as this is a dream project, and I'm learning as I go about it.

Potential 315-6188 replacement(?):

I read here Ken's the go-to guy for all things Sega. My fear is the cost. If it was a $10 buy, I wouldn't hesitate to box and send it to him. The Naomi2 acquisition cost is considerably higher, for an otherwise pristine looking unit. By the time the repair expense was applied, I would have been better off buying one of the near $800 bundles on eBay. My budget can't remotely afford either.

Ken is very conscientious when it comes to pricing. If its something that is not worth the time/cost to repair he will let you know.

But I would still message and see if can guide you to a possible repair, cant hurt to ask.

I will do that. I found new OEM parts for the possibly affected chips (both since discontinued by Intel/Altera!). Just received updated pics from the seller. Whoever owned this Naomi2 completely butchered it. I'm guessing this mobo is junk, without a VERY expensive repair. The case is pristine and the interior is spotless.

I'm a complete noob on soldering and such, but I do my research. This guy blew hot air topside on the 315-6188 a.k.a. Altera EPC1064PC8. All he needed to do was de-solder the bottom, and pull the IC to replace it. My fear is he destroyed the tracing, rendering the board useless without insane repair cost. He may have even damaged the Altera EPF8452AQC160-3 FPGA.

I could probably handle the IC31 replacement if tracing wasn't a potential issue. It most certainly appears to be. The EPF replacement is more tricky, and I wouldn't risk further damage to the board. Those transistors on the bottom look like a nightmare!

I wonder if Ken would let me send both NOS parts for the repair, if they're cheaper than what he'd use in-house to save cost. Will ask depending on his eval.

I think I might go this route. Looks within my price range and hopefully can be cleaned up reasonably. I wish I could see the motherboard, to be certain it wasn't hacked to death.
Ask them to send you pics of the MB on the ebay listing, they have serial numbers so just as k that you get what they send you pic off if you agree to buy it. Swap out the case for the one you already have. Used the one you have for spare parts / sell or donate it.

Honestly, the case depicted in the eBay listing looks pretty decent. Obvious normal wear and tear is found, but a little soap and water can remedy a lot.

I thought about buying their $430 bundle initially, but I don't really want the GD-ROM + DIMM. Selling the Drive/Module/Cable for $150 probably won't entice bidders. A Net DIMM seems a better investment. The Sun Power supply is OG, but I think I'd rather use a new ATX PSU. A step down converter can be avoided this way, right?

Didn't buy a NAOMI2 yet. I just been going back and forth between the seller with the bad board. I might offer him a bid on the case alone, if the one kindly found by @Mrhide looks bad. The pristine case isn't worth more than $30 shipped to me however. Maybe $50 if the ports backboard is inc.
