MiSTer FPGA

Release Candidate MiSTercade v1 boards are off to us testers (over 50% of which are members of this forum). They should go into production in the coming weeks and then out to the masses given there's no issues found.

There's a bunch of new features and other things to be announced which are unique to this particular JAMMA adapter. Hopefully that information is leaked soon as it's all pretty exciting stuff :)

An update for Mistercade is what I was browsing the thread for, thank you! 2 on pre-order and can't wait! Though I will be happy to wait for an awesome quality product. Thanks to the testers here putting this thing through it's paces.

Seems like there's a PS1 core in the works. It's a bit cryptic, but reading between the lines and the hype it seems to be an emulator for the time being?

Will be interested if the MiSTer has the horsepower to run such a beast alongside the Saturn. I'm still skeptical on both, but time will tell.

I just got myself a MiSter, and I've been having fun with it so far. Luckily a nice case design for it already exists, which saves me the trouble of having to design something myself.

Some stuff I noticed so far:

- I'm pretty sure the Neo Geo has inaccurate sound. Music sounds off tone or slow to me in several games. Maybe I have something set incorrectly
- I can't for the life of me get X68k working... Need more time to figure this out.
- Dual video output for this is great! Having HDMI out at 720p, combined with an analogue signal out with a menu that works for low resolution is super convenient.
- update_all script takes a lot of the grunt work out of setup.
- Controller setup and UI is surprisingly easy to deal with. Much easier and intuitive compared the few times I've messed with a Raspi in my limited experience

All in all, it's an awesome little device! I can't wait for a good JAMMA solution to be available for purchase. In the meantime, I've seen people successfully use a JPAC, which I'll try as well since I have a spare one with a CPS-2 kick adapter lying around.

Yep! I just joined his Patreon. I assumed he was taking over Laxer's previous halted PSX FPGA project, which isn't the case here. He's rebuilding from scratch and typically builds a development POC emulator to understand the concepts. It's usually fast tracked from here with him. Super excited to see him take this project to the nines.

PS1… that’s super cool. if there was a solid ps1 core it’s not crazy to shoot for all the ps1 based arcade hardware. ZN1/2, namco 10/11/12, taito gnet and a couple more. Lots of great stuff there.

You might want to reconsider. I saw on Twitter they’ve just tested the JAMMA adapter with a Supergun. Pretty shortsighted.

Go with a trusted solution from actual arcade enthusiasts like the MiSTercade or the Irken Labs adapter from @invzim and you’ll face zero issues, ensure safety and compatibility too.

I know Porckchops Jamma (MisterAddons) has been in testing for several months now. Eastcoast dudes have been using JammiX samples. The most obscure has been this new Extreme, thought this was in concept stage stil, without a solid product yet. I'm a fan of Misteraddons work as much as everyone here, i want to see all solutions succeed. By far my interest has been in the Extreme model. I'm keen to see that develop into reality.

One of the key points as to why the MiSTercade deserves all the hype is partly due to its stringent testing. The tight group of people Porkchop has assembled to QA and Beta test the unit is ultimately impressive.

I’m not saying that one man himself can not accomplish the same outcomes but having a test group of arcade enthusiasts with different areas and levels of expertise and hardware has been extremely helpful in achieving a stunning feature packed and fully tested and safe product.

Arcades are a finicky thing and being able to isolate and tackle issues prior to it being sent to the public is well worth it. Wacking it on one cab or a Supergun as a developer isn’t really going to cut it with a device so prone to failure and incompatibility.

Completely agree. He’s also first to market with the right set of Testers in a UAT environment. I’m not sure which one your referring to who was testing on a Supergun only. I really don’t know. Maybe that maker lacks the connections today? If the other two chose to have the same group of testers mister add on has with out bias. Who knows. I want to see all options compete with one another. We all win there.

I just don’t think it’s fair to discredit the other options this early on during their development. I’m sure who ever was testing in a wack environment is really going to learn . Haha.

Someone on Twitter asked the devs about the JAMMA adapter on that MiSTer Multisystem thing and they said they’ve tested it on their Supergun and it runs great. I assume that’s all they’ve tested it on thus far? The fact that half or more of the pool of MiSTercade testers are from this very forum gives me (and should give you) very good faith. I work as a QA Tester for a living and can confirm the test processes and reported bugs have been quite significant and possibly oversighted without the varied testers / test cabs on board.

Not discrediting other options at all. Just reinforcing the fact that you’re not going to get a more “thoroughly tested” JAMMA adapter for the MiSTer at the moment aside from the MiSTercade. That’s just facts. Doesn’t mean other solutions won’t be awesome or equal or even better. I’m just sayin’ I’m extremely proud to be involved with this product and also of all the testers, Porkchops due diligence and just watching it unfold and come to life. Get in where you fit in though. I’m not trying to disrespect anyone else’s hard work or products. Just stating my facts.

I'm on the pre-order for Mistercade. He's offered to let me test the latest version on my cabs too, but I don't have a DE-10 Nano yet and just haven't gotten around to getting things all set, so not sure I'll be able to make that happen in time to be useful. But even if I don't end up a tester I know the final version I get will be a thoroughly thought through device, and I have total confidence in the process behind it.

That's the kind of effort I'm happy to support.

Yea we’re good, and proud to be with a group of folks involved within the community. I’m just as excited for Mistercade, never once had doubt other than I want to see the extreme and JammiX succeed also. Seems the former have a road ahead of them. I have no vested interest in any of the options aside from chatting it up with Porkchop on occasions :)

Actually. I just did some reading and, MY BAD, I got my devices confused. My original comments were not meant to refer to the Xtreme device but the MiSTer Multisystem thing with a 3D printed shell that looks like a console that also has a JAMMA adapter.

Many apologies.

You know we’re still bro’s right? Haha. TBH I didn’t know that console looking one had a Jamma on it haha.
