Hello, I’m actually looking for two hard drive based games to purchase. I don’t really need the dongles as I can use my usb 2X6 multi dongle. I’m looking for some one who has either replacement hard drive copies or is able to copy the game files to a hard drive as I have no clue how to do it myself. The two games I’m looking for are Cobra:the arcade and fate: unlimited codes. PM me, thanks! :)

They're both in Mame.

Cobra: The Arcade (CBR1 Ver. B) is cbr1-ha.chd
Fate: Unlimited Codes (FUD1 ver. A) is fud-hdd0-a.chd

Do you have a Windows machine? Writing .chds to drives isn't hard. We can walk you through it.

Yeah, I would like to attempt it, just need some recommendations for hard drives and what devices I can use. The help will be really appreciated! :)

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the drive doesn't really matter. So you should be able to use a Compact Flash to IDE adapter or mSATA to IDE adapter. The drive format however uses the proprietary Sony APA partitioning. But I think that writing the CHDs to the drive solves for that.

I would definitely first start with a regular mechanical drive. If you download the .chds and chdman, you can look up the size of drive by typing the following into command prompt

chdman info -i cbr1-ha.chd

Logical size will tell you the size of the original drive the image was made from. However, you can always go bigger. So if the logical size is 80gb, you could use a 120gb drive as well. Sometimes you can use a smaller drive too as the image is padded, but again, best to start with same size or bigger.

Get a mechanical drive working and then you can try cards or anything that uses an adapter.

I will totally try the mechanical hard drive first and then test out the flash cards. I know that older games “can” use a compact flash card or SD card but I haven’t seen solutions for the modern hard drive based arcade systems. Not sure if any of you guys have attempted using a compact flash adapter for your systems?
