What's new
Got my MiSTercade "Release Candidate" in today also and have given it a solid whirl. Absolute perfection. I believe these are now in the manufacturing stages. Not long now! Below is my current MiSTer collection and are all the Beta's I've tested: Beta 1, Beta 4 and RC. Also had to get that gold case which is magnificent in itself. Heatsink over the sticker on the RC is covering up some stuff being worked on in the pipeline ;)

Here's a little tip for those who haven't done it, run "Version 2" of the Arcade Organizer script.

The current (default) one and its database is hopeless. You've got:
"Beat' Em Up" and also "Beat 'Em Up"
"Hack 'n Slash" and "Hack & Slash"
"Shoot 'em up", "Shoot' em up" and "Shoot em up"
then there's useless categories like "Maze, Cat and Mouse" and "Maze, Digging"

It's the absolute opposite of Organized and it's a shame it's the default.

By using Misteraddons custom "MAD Database" and "V2" of the script, you'll get something akin to a nicely sorted flash cart selection for arcade games including useful categories like Genres, Manufacturers, Game Series, Year, Controls, CW/CCW Rotation, etc. He's still gotta add the Cave games to the DB, but that's up to nullobject to update his files for it to work.

To get this going and for the cleanest setup just nuke your entire _Arcade folder, enable v2 of the organiser script in the options in "update_all" then choose Misteraddons Database in the Arcade Organizer options (this is important, or you'll just end up with the weirdo categories).

Anyone try the PS1 core demo yet on their unit?

I'm guessing the final core is going to need dual RAM. Contemplating getting a Digital I/O for one of my setups in case....

Just saw that @misteraddons finally announced the MiSTercade Remote:

Features:
Volume knob
P1+P2 Coin
System Reset
Menu
Core Reset
Pause
3.5mm headphone + amp mute
SNAC for core-native peripherals (lightguns, etc.)
Arcade games 100% mapped. Retail release will feature aluminum case and knob. ETA January 2022

This is just ONE of the little extra add-on's for the MiSTercade that are coming. It’s pretty *obvious* as this wasn’t announced with the MiSTercade that it’s an “optional” add on, as with the other forthcoming announcements.

I think most beta testers have one of these now. I can say it really adds to the experience. Being able to coin up, bring up the menu, reset, etc. is a god send. Having a headphone jack is great but the real treat is being able to connect lightguns via SNAC directly at the panel.

re: Mounting, I have taken out a lock on my Astro and just routed it up from under the control panel. Some have run a cable from the back of the cabinet.

Sweet, looking forward to the release of the mistercade and for my order to ship out, definitely looks like a feature-packed unit for sure. I know it will be a quality product just by looking at the list of the testers.

Is the remote board an add-on at an extra cost, shipping later on? or maybe, will it be included with or sent out to those that placed preorders at no cost?

Nice addition. Almost a must-have. I could see a Brook style board down the track where users could build custom control panels or aux panels to accommodate all these buttons.

;)

Currently I have menu mapped to Down + Start, so I use that for quick game hopping. There’ll be different pre configured files for different hot keys — plus there’s already a complete repository with all cores mapped for the MiSTercade encoder. So it’s definitely not needed, but I agree, it’s an “almost must-have” for those mounting a MiSTercade in their cabs for long periods, or forever ;)

Since I share my cabs with people I'm always down for things that are more clear for others to use. Don't want to have to make people memorize button/joystick combos when possible. So I find stuff like this very handy. The final version will have a case, but I lasered up a quickie panel for mine and printed a knob so it would be easier to use in the meantime.

(Mute is being swapped to a full system reset, so ignore that, just beta stuff)

Looks awesome and yeah looks like someone is having fun with their 3d printer and laser cuter

Close to being out of Beta:

DoDonPachi
Dangun Feveron/Fever SOS
ESP Ra.De.
Uo Poko

and then Guwange now in the works….
Did I read somewhere that there were doubts about the limits of the MiSTer for CAVE games, or am I thinking specifically later CAVE hardware that came out after the games you listed above? What would the cutoff for the CAVE released games be if so?

You’re maybe thinking about Cave CV-1000 hardware which is a whole different deal to this hardware.

Announcement forthcoming from @misteraddons — I know what it is, and it’s pretty damn cool! :)

Unpopular opinion incoming, but at this point I would rather just have the mistercade than hear about some other addon that I don't care about. Some of the beta testers should really sit him down and explain what 'scope creep' is to him.

@benime The announcement is nothing to do with MiSTercade. They’ve been ordered and that’s all been finalised.

But, fair enough :)
