wooohoooo!!! the simulation works!! damn what a unconvinient way.. need to do everything in certain order or it deletes files from the folders, that it later tried to open!

Tried Protel Design Explorer 99 sp6 today and it worked a bit better, but was unable to figure out how to do any simulation.. asked for some net/spice? haha havent got a clue.. but atleast the JED is produced OK! now I just need to find a way to make the tssop 20 fit between the pinrows.. maaaaybe possible if i slim down the footprint max for both top side soldepads for the actual pins, and the atf16v8 :)

I must admit I'd be lazy and just use two dip footprints offset by one... How does the space around the chip look like?

The space around the chip on this particular pcb is free in pin 1 direction, but if I extend the pcb that way, then the next time I need to use it, it will not fit probably haha.. thats why I thought I would try and make it fit in the middle.. althou its probably easier to just make 2 versions of the pcb in that case... one extending towards front and one towards back, and place the atf16v8 there.. hmm need to check if they are isp..

(BTW: I recommend pinsocket-rows instead of a DIP socket, the plastic connecting the two rows collides with the solder points for the other side, so you'd cut it anyway...)

Well, that would be the faster and maybe easier was... just worried it would collide with neighboring components the next time I would like to use it.. but yeah, pcbs are cheap as chips so I might as well take that route and save myself some headache.. I saw that I didnt have SSOP adapter for my programmer also :( .. hmm
 
I havent defined the unused pins as anything in the CUPL but should I connect them to gnd or something or just leave them floating?

This might just work, but its a tight fit! Trace 0,2/0,25, drill 0,6.. round pin is 0,47.. too tight perhaps?

bah, I totally forgon to actually route the /OE pin.. hmm.. that might be needed on some games? hmm.. might need to atleast route it to be safe. :)
 
Sounds like a good idea if you want to reuse it for other projects. You shouldn't need to connect inputs to GND, as the 16V8 should have internal pull-ups. (Though I am happy to be corrected if someone has more experience on this.) That way you can manually wire additional connections if necessary.

yeah I read that in the datasheet, but wanted to double check with a wizard of high rank before proceeding :)

btw, what do you think of the drill size for the rounded pins? is 0,6 to tight? pins are said to be 0,47.. should be ok?
 
can you actually get the ssop package?
i dont mean "is it in the datasheet", i mean can you actually get them.
because my usual source only has dip and plcc.

Yeah mouser has 285 in stock. They sell 2 types it seems, but one is out of stock
 
mouser - isnt that a $50 minimum order or something? :(
