@Darksoft sorry to ask again, just if i understood that correctly:

The Fpga replacement needs to be programmed by ourselves wth the code once we receive the multi? how does that work, with a flashcat? (i want to have the proper tools at hand in case i get one)

Following up to that question, i don't know how perfect the qsound reproduction from jotego is atm, but since he's revisiting his old work from time to time i suppose it would be possible to update the fpga once he updates his core?

If the second question can be answered with a yes i'd probably even prefer the fpga version, otherwise i'm happy with what i get (though i have to admit, i ordered right away because i thought i'd get an original chip that way)

I wasn't going to make a big deal about this, I placed my order knowing full well the situation.
It was the guilty conscience of the sellers/creator that pushed me to the point where I felt I could no longer ignore the elephant in the room.

I should just be able to mention it, and I expect people to be like "he has a point" not "the theory he presents is invalid because the cpu cycles of the original device aligned with the FPGA cycles prefectly".

Wake up! Its random because they don't have enough for everyone.

Bro, your point is an awkward, invalid, and entitled one that makes you look like you'll destroy your relationships here with others by being rude. I personally doubt you'd have ever been quiet about this, that doesn't seem like your style.

Anyone who's been here more than a few years knows what the purpose of the interest lists are. You damn well should with how long you've been around but here's a reminder of why so many people (myself included) don't agree with you:

"Interest lists" are just that - to count up interest in order to get an idea on manufacturing and if the project is worth undertaking. That's it bro, it gives you zero rights. I know you're super proud of being 17th "in line" and feel that you're owed the best of the best for it. But it's your misinterpretation of "an interest list" that's causing you to feel that way. It's not "a pre-order list". Especially not 3+ years later with how long it takes to develop this tech. If Darksoft kept your $750 for those 3 years I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there's zero commitment or promise for either the buyer or seller.

So to answer your question: "Is that not the very reason you got on the pre-order list?"
NO. Because it's not a pre-order list. It's a raise of hands to take count on how many people would potentially buy one. You pre-ordered just now when you gave up your money, and the information that the Q-sound chips would be randomed was apparent upon that action. You opted in.

At the end of the day you'll get a working multi, just like everyone else. And if there were no scarce Qsound chips for these multi's and everything was FPGA, I doubt you'd be up in arms about it at all.

If you're disappointed when you receive it, totally get that - cool. I'm sure folks will swap with you here, just like they've been saying. But no one did anything wrong to you here, it's clearly your misunderstanding of what you signed up for that's set your expectations somewhere outside of reality.

I'd really appreciate it if you could chill out and quit attacking the people who've been working hard for years to make this happen.

The FPGA core can be programmed using JTAG, but this one comes programmed by us. The program that runs inside the DSP-16 can be easily uploaded placing a file in the microSD.

Definitely the Interest check is that, an interest check, not a preorder list. The project has had many changes, most of them just to make the kit more interesting and CPS1.5 support was announced at a later stage.
In any case, right now a bit over 50% of the first 250 people on the list have ordered so far. The remaining ones, showed interest, which led me to go ahead in this project with more confidence but now they wont buy. Should I have some claim with them? No, absolutely not. That was 3-4 years ago and many things have happened, including a global pandemic, so I think it's fair to say as Americans like to say "put your money, where your mouth is".

About the small drama around Qsound, the problem is outsourcing the Qsound chips as I wrote before, so if you really want that one and can find one, we'll support you to get it running.

I hope this clarifies things.
 
Is there a definitive list of donor boards to get a qsound chip from? (Obviously another good topic for the FAQ)

If the chips are in any CPS 1.5, 2, 3, and Capcom ZN1/2 boards then that gives people plenty of options to pick up dead ones to take a qsound chip from if they so desired?
 
If taking Qsound chip from a PCB, which PCBs are good for sourcing it?

My "place" in the interest list is beyond 600, so it will take time before I'm getting the multi (if ever, because of the shortage of components). And I think I will be ok with FPGA solution anyway. Just interested in as I have couple of CPS2 A-boards. And it seems to be impossible to find reasonably priced for sure working B-boards. Maybe those A boards could serve as Qsound chip sources instead?

Any of those will be good donors. I think the easiest to find are CPS2 A board. They even have a B-21 and A-01 that can be used to repair CPS1 A and C Boards.

So pretty much any Capcom Q1 DL1425 chip will do?

Doesn’t matter if they are AT&T made or Lucent…etc?

For future batches it could be good to give people an option to select the sound setup?

If the sound module simply plugs in then you could sell the kit without it in the box and a buyer has to select whether to get the FPGA option or QSound and BYO chip… I guess the trade off is added complexity for the reseller.

Really what we want to avoid. The amount of Qsound is limited and when they are over, there will be no choice, just FPGA or "find your own Qsound chip"

Too complex, we already considered that.
 
So anyone here looking forward to playing Strider, Final Fight, SF2: Rainbow/Red Wave/Koryu, The Punisher, Cadillacs & Dinoaurs, Ghosts & Goblins, etc. on real hardware or what?!

In that order 👆 and many more, it's my favourite system of all time so I will shuffle games every day for some time, specially if we gather with friends at home, and then I can leave some preferred game as sf2:ce ( with 12mhz a-board) if I host a tournament for sometime. I'll look into trainers and mods aswell. I can only forsee happiness :thumbsup:
