I found these cheapo analog sticks on Aliexpress and figured I'd give em a shot. So far, they work great!

Wiring them up was pretty straightforward. Black is ground ref, yellow is V ref, white is channel 0, and red is channel 1. The channels and v/gnd can change depending on the orientation in the cabinet or what game you're playing.
 
Nice, looks like an ideal solution if you don't want to deal with those huge analog joysticks. Need to find a stick case that has enough depth to support that though... might have to do something custom for that.

I haven't measured them but it goes from 00 to FF right on the edges, I'll measure it later to see for sure.
I've played Zombie Revenge and Monkey Ball with them so far. These sticks are nicer to use than the baseball panel ones.

I can measure the depth, they're bigger than a JLF but not huge. It does have to be mounted flush to get the full throw with a 24mm hole, no shaft cover.
 
Right on, thanks for the info. I have one blank undrilled NAOMI panel, but no project with its name on it.

The pots might be marked, hopefully something like B5K, to indicate linear 5K. I have had other values "work" but I believe that is the correct value for sega JVS IOs in all technicality.
 
The mounting depth of the sticks is 1.75 inches or 45mm.

The pots seem to measure around 4.7k when disconnected. There's no obvious markings on them. They do have slotted adjustments to fine tune. They seem to hit max just before riding the gate.

The only disappointing part is the lack of software.
 
Thanks for pointing these out. I just placed an order. Looking forward to playing with them. Now I just need to find a version that actuates a button press like the L3/R3 buttons on modern gamepads.

I've been messing with them for gas and brake on driving games. You can sweep the full range from ff to 00, but you gotta press pretty hard. When using it for a gas pedal, I'm finding that while holding it I'm just pressing less and less hard over time. I've tried a few calibrations and so far, it's just ok. I bet they would work better with an amp to get more granularity out of just the top range of the button. It only has two pins so you have to add in a resistor to make a voltage divider. I'm not sure if messing with the value, or adding one on both ends, would help.
 
Yep, Monkey Ball works just fine. You'll need to swap V and GND relative to Zombie Revenge, and calibrate it, but that's it. I made my harnesses with two connectors for the sticks with V and GND swapped so it's easy to switch between.

Can you show pics of what connectors you used to use these? They finally arrived and I'm clueless as to how I'll use them.

I mainly want them to play super Monkey ball on one, and Zombie revenge on my other one 😁
 
Sure. All colors are references to my pictures and not any official Sega colors.

First, the stick is wired up to a 4 pin male AMP UP connector. I believe I kept the same pinout as the official Sega sticks.
1. yellow (v+ ref)
2. white (axis 0, vertical)
3. red (axis 1, horizontal)
4. black (gnd ref)

Then that can plug into two daisy chained 4 pin female AMP UP connectors. Basically one has v+ ref and gnd ref swapped. This just makes it easy to switch between Zombie Revenge and Monkey Ball. You could also just make a separate female->male dongle with + and gnd swapped to stick in to switch rather than doing a daisy chain.

How would I connect it if I wanted a dedicated panel for each game? 1 for monkey ball and one for zombie revenge? I wouldn't need to jumper the ground.
I'm going to be using net dimms for each game.

I'm planning to use these spare vs panels. 1 for each game. Maybe I'm overthinking it

Instead of having the daisy chain, just do one joystick one way, and one the other way. Also you don't need the 4 pin connector between the joystick and the 8 pin connector, it's just neater.

What cabinet do you have?
 
This is very cool. I've always wanted to run Monkeyball but the analog control factor made it a no go. These seem to be the ticket.
