Hi I got a Simpsons cab a couple days ago

And the color red is missing from the monitor.

I am happy to fix it but in the mean time. I thought it would be a good time for to test my hoard of 25" arcade monitors.

One of them had great colors but was really dim.

I am trying to source parts but need to know the models of the Wells Gardner Chassis.

I don't see K-7000 anywhere on the chassis itself and want to make sure I reference my cap readings with the correct cap kits and order the proper flybacks.

Can anyone share a good method for identifying a WG chassis?
 
you wont find the name outright on the chassis unfortunately.

I wrote this guide on Klov years ago for differentiating between 4 different WG chassis that look nearly identical: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/th...u5000-k7400-and-k7500-monitor-chassis.267353/

the k7000 specifically is pretty distinct though. there's a big ceramic resistor hanging on the side of the frame that's usually a dead give-away.

in general the best way to ID a chassis is just compare pictures of yours to references pics.

If you've got a k7000 then enjoy. it's IMO the best looking 15khz arcade monitor ever made, and one of the most robust too!
 
Agree with @twistedsymphony in full and appreciate the link. To add one item. Generally K7000's will have two markings on the middle of the board "P447" or "P538". P447 usually corresponds to small neck 22.5mm 13"/19" chassis whereas p538 usually corresponds to regular 29mm 25"/27" chassis (using domestic viewable screen measurements not tube face). For a simpsons you want to be on the lookout for the latter.

I just dug it out and gave it a rinse.

It does look like a K7000. Would you mind confirming?

Also there was some extra components and wire installed on the under side. Is this typical? What would cause someone to do this and how would I got about fixing it?

usually the POT will have a label on it somewhere that tells you the value.

failing that you can take a multimeter and measure the left and right side pins and that will be the value.

looks like you've got a cracked resistor in that photo too
 
K7000 19 inch.
The 25inch have remote pots.

the manual list the pots! use it!

...and amazon sells a box of different pots for ~ 10-15$. Get one of those. Search for "potentiometer"

learn everything there is to learn about K7000 on mike's amateur channel!

Hell I even started to make a troubleshooting document with all of his stuff! here it is attached. ( it's a draft ok! )

Its funny you mention that. I've been watching Mike's Amateur for the last hour and a half.

Thanks for putting in the time to make that PDF. That's super helpful.

The more I dive into this, the worse it gets unfortunately.

The pads are completely lifted off the HOT section..

And I'm surprised I didn't catch this earlier. The Flyback Transformer is missing entirely
