I'm a noob, and add to that, I'm a noob, trying to do what I think are unconventional things...
I have a Naomi1, with Netboot, and a Type B Jamma I/O (Kind of having trouble finding JVS IO (or do I even WANT a JVS IO?)
What I want to do, is run Lupin III in a Time Crisis 3 Deluxe cab.
The way that I see the system going is that the system246 sends a VGA cord to a converter, that turns it into an S-Video signal, which then goes to a Projection TV
When I plug it in to the Naomi, The screen isn't syncing, and the picture scrolls down.
Do I need a different converter? should I run the picture through the IO, and pull it off of the Edge connector, and turn that signal into something the TV understands?
I'm assuming it's probably something simple, but it's the simple stuff that I have a hard time with because everyone assumes that you already know it...

Also: Are the Light guns compatible with the Naomi and IO? Will the vibration function?

Guns will not work. You need a sega io OR you need an openjvs hat with a rasberry pi 4, which will allow you to run all your netboot games with standard controllers, or wii controllers for guns

Time crisis is standard resolution 15hz.

Naomi can do both standard and high (31hz). Are you in 15hz?

Might be best to consider a PC emulation setup for that and run all the light gun games.

I'm not sure if you can natively connect up the namco guns to a PC but you could convert them to gun4ir for PC compatibility.

Use a PC with older ATI card and the emudriver software to force the correct video modes for your time crisis 3 arcade cabinet monitor (15Khz)

It's good timing as the next mame release should have time crisis 2 and crisis zone support thanks to mame developer Mog Miner:

I'm not sure if you can emulate time crisis 3 yet as it's based on PS2 hardware. Possibly on the Play1 emulator.

Thanks. I'll look into finding another IO. Would something like this work?:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1669970643...uid=ms1kyvlfrve&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It says that it's for Chunthm, and I don't see it on the list of I/Os from (This other thread I've been following)

As for the dipswitch, I did flip #1, but It's still doing the Horizontal Scrolling...I suspect that it has something to do with one of the sync wires in the VGA cable? Does the 246 use a different type of VGA connection from Naomi?

No, that's a USB IO. You need a JVS one.

You also need Type 2 guns, a gun IO and a bezel with emitters.

Not worth doing with original parts with the cab you have.
ahh...see, I thought USB and JVS was the same thing... Thanks for the info
I'm doing it for my store. I'm putting in small arcade (maybe 10-20 cabs) to go with it, So I'm not sure that I want to run Emulation

You don't plan on staying a noob for very long right?! :D Cause 10 - 20 cabs will keep you pretty busy and you'll learn a bunch of stuff!

remember this about arcade cabs : it's complicated and expensive but damn it's fun !!

What I'm gathering, is that "OpenJVS" is an I/O emulator? It tricks the system (Naomi, in my case) into thinking that it's connected to an I/O? and the jumpers on it is to select which IO to emulate? Connect OpenJVS to the Naomi with the JVS cord, which translates it into USB. then connect the OpenJVS to the Pi, and use the USB ports on the Pi to connect the controller (or lightgun?) Could I use the same RPi4 with it as used with the netboot?

I had considered using something like this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2357971862...uid=ms1kyvlfrve&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Along with a USB Lightgun, but I'm assuming now that it won't work, because the Naomi will detect that there's no IO?

Yes the openjvs acts like/ replaces an i/o

Naomi —> hat —> rasberry pi <—- usb lightguns

Yes you can use the pi to netboot as well.

Your ebay link appears to also acts like an io if we believe the picture… which says
Naomi<—device<— usb controller

I think I have the IO situation handled. (I'll see once I get the boards in) But what do I do about the Scrolling screen?

Did you try to adjust the sync?

Also can you

output that time crisis 3 to another 15hz monitor?
Connect another 15hz board to that projection screen?

That would allow you to rule things out

There's no setting that I can find to adjust sync. It's literally a Projection TV that they stuffed in there.
It doesn't scroll when the 246 is plugged in and running
I've also tried plugging the 246 into an lcd monitor that I have lying around, and it plays TC3 perfect.
I plugged the Naomi into the same monitor, and it also plays perfect
I don't have any other 15hz boards that have the VGA connection...

Ok so 246 works.
Naomi works in 15hz right? Sorry just trying to make sure your dipswitch isn’t broken! (I’ve seen broken ones)

so naomi pin 13 is hsync while the timecrisis 3 manual calls for vsync. maybe that's the issue? not so easy to wire them together to try ! but that's what I would try!

So maybe move 14 to 13?
The wires are separated on the s-video converter, It should be easy to move them there...I'll try it out tomorrow
