Advice

I have a HAS 4, HAS V and a Minigun

Go with the HAS like many members recommend

Features that stand out to me with the HAS are:
The button mapping and auto fire modes
Buttons are mapped properly when using Atomiswave

The Minigun is a great Supergun if you have an alternative to map your buttons and you don't plan on running the Atomisave
Does it matter which version of HAS you go with because I know one of them is out of stock at the moment.

We have all been there before. If anyone says they never have plugged in the jamma harness backwards before they are lying. It happens to the best of us.
Technically, the standard protects you from that by having a keying notch on the card edge, which should have a corresponding blanking pin doohickey inside the connector. But yeah, you're right, I've never seen one fitted in any JAMMA connector I've come across either! (Admittedly a small-ish sample size)

Far more egregious is the Sega System 16/24 having the same sized card edge, (albeit with no keying notch), but with a sufficiently different pinout, so the magic smoke can still make its escape.

Not at the moment. I’m thinking about getting a fighting layer pcb to use of eBay it’s tested so…

By the time you buy a JAMMA board or two, the HAS will be back in stock!

Make sure the check the For Sale section for boards on here, KLOV and Arcade Otaku - you'll find that pricing is usually much better than Ebay.

After you get your HAS what display are you going to use?

How are you going to power it?

Which controllers/adapters do you plan to use?

Power is pretty simple.

Selecting a controller is not difficult but you have to investigate your options.

Display is the most complicated.

Depending on the display you are using, it can be simple or somewhat complicated to get your PCB to display on your television/monitor.

For most noobs, this is the hardest part. I know it was for me. Once you understand how things work, you will usually know what will and won't work with your display; or how to get something to work on your display.

Already started investing the controller bit. I’m trying to use the same general control scheme as the original the game has several different mechanics. I’m trying to think of a monitor too. I’ll check how many buttons the game has.

Of course I have to check compatibility. I assume HAS automatically knows the correct amount of voltage right that’s why it doesn’t have that number display unless I just missed it?

Should I do like a scale model or maybe countertop? Then again I could just open mine since it is so similar it’s the exact same color. Like you all mentioned. I don’t have a marquee for it though. I also wouldn’t know what I’m doing with the wires.

While I'm not going to disagree with the HAS suggestions above, I can also personally recommend the CBOX 4.0. Yes, it's made in China (what isn't these days?) but the quality is reasonable, you can control the voltage, it has USB and DB15 input, but in my opinion the best thing about it is the separate daughter board which gives you the most "console like" setup you will find for a Supergun.

Here's my thread on it if you're interested.

I was looking at those too… except the one I looked at was red. Thanks.

Those are some good points

Don't forget most superguns are JAMMA
If you want to get into JVS Arcade setup that's a bit different and just as easy to get into

Control options is highly customizable for a Supergun as well
You can easily rewire any Arcade stick out now with a DB-15 Breakout Board with no soldering skills needed

RGB output seems standard for most Superguns just make sure you have the video converters or scalers available to convert the signal

I have this supergun as well.

It's pretty good but I had to create a passthrough board to disable one of the pins because it was causing a very bad audio hum on some PCB. None of my other superguns, not even cheap $30 superguns has had this problem.

I posted about the issue here a while ago.

My favorite supergun is the minigun with 9pin din but I can see why the HAS is so highly recommended (I have a HAS too).

If you’re going to house the pcb in something like a countertop cabinet is a supergun still helpful?

That’s what I’m probably going to do. Instead of a supergun. Then there’s less of a damage risk I think then I don’t have to take apart my multicade and it would compliment the layout of my room nicely I think. I saw someone on KLOV converted the game from a golf vr cabinet? I’ll check.
