Data East MLC SYSTEM conversion possible?

Here is what little I know from my street hoop cart. The whole assembly splits in half seemingly to a mother and rom board (Which kind of negates the name). A couple roms are socketed, in the case of street hoop you can update revisions with those roms. The rest is soldered from what I remember. I can open it for pics if that would help.

Bought a conversion MLC from Sheep - from what to Skull Fang I dont know but here are the pics.

Wow, all those games look just awful haha. :P

Avengers In Galactic Storm / Cosmic Avengers
Dunk Dream '95 / Hoops / Hoops '96
Skull Fang
Stadium Hero '96

Pre-rendered sprites sure, but if your going to pre-render anyway why not use a texture?

Oh yeah, they are completely horrible, lol. They are like hot garbage.

I have Vapor Trail, Wolf Fang which are pretty good

the follow up is Skull Fang which just looks horrible.

But mostly got this to see what the conversion was about.

For anyone who has tried a conversion of Stadium Hero '96 to Skull Fang. Is it possible by directly burning the dump files in mame and quitting 146 security custom?

Hi again. The conversion is possible. Only a few tips. These boards doesn't have WE signals, so you must put them at hand with a cable. Remove the 146 custom, make the WE signal union (pin 1 to +5V) and also lift the pin 44 on the 2 YMZ sound memories (WP signal, is a bit crazy in this board on that zone)

Do you still have the 146 custom ? Would you sell it

Is skull fang encrypted or all you must do is burn the files to 29f016 and solder them on, removing the 146 and adding we?
Whats the purpose of lifting 44 pin?

WP signal is constantly changing from LOW to HIGH on pin 44, when it should be on LOW value. Skull Fang doesn't have encryption, and is like you say.

Totally agree. Hunting down the info & piecing it together definitely took a bit.
Now to attempt first.
Unless @Tailsnic Retroworks wants to write it. I might have missed something.

I was wondering if it's possible to do DATA EAST MLC SYSTEM HARDWARE (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=950) conversions form Avengers to Skull Fang (or Street Hoops).

I know the original post in this thread is YEARS old but I've looked at MLC for conversions or multi and here's the general gist.

As has been established in this thread the case splits in two and there are two PCBs. For whatever reason Data East put the CPU on the ROM board so not all games use the same CPU. This means that to do a conversion games must use the same CPU, and it also makes any sort of multi challenging as you'd have to basically put all CPU types on the same PCB.

But it breaks down like this:
Avengers uses a SH7604 CPU
All other games use an ARM CPU

There are some other differences too
Stadium Hero 96 has a DE146 protection chip that no other game uses.
Also most games have scrambled audio data as another form of protection except for Janken Game Acchi Muite Hoi!

That basically means that Hoops/Hoops 96/Dunk Dreams 95 are the only ones the same as Skull Fang.

As Tailsonic demonstrated It's also possible that Stadium hero could work as a conversion donor with the protection chip appropriately disabled.

Also possible Acchi could be used if the skull fang audio data was de-scrambled. This would require more investigation/research though.

Avengers is unfortunately not a donor, nor could it be converted to since it uses a completely different CPU
