What's new

So whats next on the list of multis?

Awesome though it may be, an alternative to a CPS1 multi that is by your own words no longer produced and was never available outside of France is not reinventing the wheel. What more can we ask for on your list of points? To actually buy it.
This 100%^^^

"Oh this thing exists, but you can't buy one and it's no longer being made"

Uh... That means it's time for it to get cloned and sold to me.
If aje_fr isn't interested in taking my money that's fine, I'm happy to give it to Darksoft!

My first vote would be for a CPS1 Multi - @aje_fr has shown it's possible, but if a production & distribution deal with him can't happen then I'd hope that Darksoft would create his own.

As always, I'd love to see an Irem M92 Multi. There's 14 good games there, and many of them extremely rare and difficult to come by. A Major Title 2 board isn't a super-expensive donor like it would be on a Cave Multi.

While we're wishing for unicorns, I'll throw an Irem M72/82/84 Multi out there for consideration as well. Again, Major Title or Hammerin' Harry isn't an expensive donor, and there's some great classics on the platform (R-Type, R-Type 2, Dragon Breed, X-Multiply, Ninja Spirit, Legend of Hero Tonma).

I don't know if it could be addressed with a multi... But Hammerin' Harry can NOT be converted into a R-type.
The mainboard is the same, but the sub board hasn't got enough ROMs.

Welcome to the reason why I actually own a R-Type 1 and 2 PCB, and yes the both together ran me over 1,000$.
Thankfully my R-Type Leo is a conversion (Major Title 2). :)

Oh, and yea I totally need a 3rd Vewlix cab so I can run all three boards at the same time.

It depends on which Hammerin' Harry board you're looking at. It was released on M72, M82 and M84. M84 is the most common Hammerin' Harry board, and you're correct that it doesn't have room for the 12 EPROMs that R-Type needs. But Hammerin' Harry was also released on M72, which is the same board that R-Type used. There's also hacked conversion ROMs that get R-Type running on the M82, and Hammerin' Harry can be tracked down in M82 form as well.

Cps1

Pgm (only hope of playing cave games)
Sys16

Oh screw it it's in my signature line already

My understanding is others have also offered/asked to distribute and been turned down but I'm not 100% on that.
If that's true, then there's not much which can be done and it's really irritating.
I understand if he's making money out of it and doesn't want to share his project with someone else, but at this point it's been more than a year that he's stopped producing them, so if he's lost interest in it, then why not just give it to someone else?

If that's the case, then I'm 100% for having another CPS1 multi made by DS.

I'd personally like to see a Sega System 16 just because there are quite a few good games on the platform and you need multiple ROM boards to play them all even if you have all the EPROMs and PALs burned.

-Shinobi
-Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars (System 16A)
-Fantasy Zone (System 16A)
-Wonder Boy 3
-Action Fighter
-Sonic Boom
-Cotton
-Bay Route
-Aurail
-Wrestle War
-Golden Axe
-Altered Beast
No PAL/GAL burning needed, just swapping around the ROMS and some jumpers (all well documented in MAME's sourcecode).

Since all the EPROMs are socketed, it's just a matter of removing them and placing new ones in, without the need of a board for each game. It takes ~5 minutes to swap all the EPROMs and I generally don't want to swap games until I've played it through and 1CC'd it.

Still, a multi would be nice for those who don't want to invest time and money on EPROMs and a burner.

EDIT: and another vote for Irem M92!

It's going to be DECO. Then the next after DECO will be something that will come out of the blue ready to take preorders
Deco,
then MVS :D
or is it something else ?(
Whatever it is?! Can never have enough multis!

Can I start asking for this one?

Let's turn all those golden tee boards into bloodstorm, timekillers, and sf: the movie boards!
Man Ekorz...I got love for ya...and I don't want to ruin our business relationship...but I'm gonna pat you gently on the arm, and tell you to follow the nice staff down to the padded room for this one. :D

With the sole exception of DECO I will buy them all anyways.
For having people around they are just to convenient.

My list:

1. CPS1
2. PGM1
3. M92
4. Atomiswave/Naomi (f*ck netboot)

I wonder what a Cave Multi would do to the prices of the original boards...

I guess that would depend if you needed an original board or not for the multi.
