What's new
It's definitely a personal preference thing, I've got a few battery boards that I keep that way and I've revived a few others for other people.

I've also installed decrypted ROMs onto a couple of boards for others on request as well

What I found worked best was to run the reprogram cycle through the Arduino twice while it was connected, and both were successful.
Yeah, I'm going with Artemio's method this time. I have an Arduino Uno and all of the other parts in the mail. We'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed. I'm hoping it's "only" suicided. Black screen at boot. Nothing else.

That's exactly what the 2 I desuicided did, perfectly synced black screen, not like the CPS2 where you have a solid colour

Since Muscle Bomber isn't being super cooperative I decided to fuck around and got 3P inputs working in Cadillacs (should work on any of the 3P and 4P games, but I've not tested those yet). Muscle Bomber I think will be the first one that I can finish, since it doesn't seem to use the per-color priority functionality at all, so there will be no priority bugs.

Awesome work!

Can I please make a request though?

For future videos of your progress on Cadillac's & Dinosaurs, can you please select Hannah D. as your playable character...

Just saying...

:D

Went back to Cadillacs a bit more, bopped some anti-hack checks, fixed some input mapping. Played through to the end on my multi and everything seemed normal and working great. I need to flip around some sprite buffers next, as there's some strange sprite flicker/delay on occasion that is a bit ugly. Given the wrong cases are basically inverted between hardware and MAME, something funky is going on. Muscle Bomber is being annoying, for some reason it's stuck in a loop (that may be the test menu, but with incorrect graphics?), and I'm not sure what's wrong. It might be some anti-hack routines, didn't look super hard yet.

Nah, Mess is the only way to be, that running jump arc is the greatest thing ever. So satisfying.

Fair enough. I don't want to distract you from your important work, good sir...

And for the record, I pledged $50 at first, but I am now pledging $100 as this is getting exciting!

I've received the bootleg board form Blackfish.
As expected it's not Q-Sound but...

1) It seems undumped, at least ROM sizes are different to the known bootleg in MAME
2) The 2 big QFP chips really seem to be CPS-A-01 and CPS-B-21 reproductions! I've quickly checked their pinout and it's a perfect match! :D

I'm leaving for a one month business trip on Sunday so things will be quiet on my side for a while but I'm looking forward to getting back to it in March!

Repros? or maybe they are a run of the same chips Capcom used/sourced before being branded capcom? Would be cool to know if they are in fact the same chips or a reproduction, lets us know what you find out.

Chip package quality is different from the OG ones, so probably repros or copies using the same die inside.
Rest assured I will let you know about my findings! ;)

The die must be cut from the same wafer as the OG's, acquired sometime after final test but before wirebond/module.
Capcom would have closely controlled the mask, so I highly doubt they got bare wafers lithod/started.
It also seems unlikely they reversed the chip and had masks made due to the sheer expense of such an undertaking, but I could be wrong.

I'd imagine it was "acquired" in a similar way to this shard of 200mm wafer containing metal layer 2 dep'd PowerPC 970 FX I've got. ;)

Set up Cadillacs at a friend's and played it a bit with some 2P and 1P, it crashed a few more times with clearly anti-piracy failures. Guess I need to do some more full sweeps in MAME, clearly didn't do a good enough job with that. Also set up some configuration options with the build to allow using a ghetto CPS2 6-button kick harness hookup for 3P, which we unfortunately didn't get to test out.

I have a friend with one of these CPS1 chipset clones, my guess is one of the companies related to the original manufacture got a little greedy and stole some information and sold it to a bootleg manufacturer. Similar has happened with lower profile companies, I wouldn't be surprised if this happened to Capcom in CPS1 era.
