Sentinel Supergun - Prototype

I figure this is the best place to post this for convenience: Who from the NYC / Brooklyn crew is getting one of the test units? I definitely plan on buying one with a plexi case (thanks xodaraP!), but I was hoping to do a video on one of the prototype units ASAP to show it off to people.

Hey @beast1x5 will you be doing a live stream for this one?

absolutely.. I also may have potentially found a fix for the taito F3 in regards to it's jacked up sync to the OSSC... here's to good results after i install a Jrok sync cleaner

i'm also planning on purchasing a jamma extension harness specifically for the sentinel supergun.. I have a weird phobia of heavy looking things hanging off of smaller things... kinda freaks me out LOL

Sounds good, I'll tune in for sure.

I haven't spent too much time with the F3 on the Framemeister, but may get a moment next week to play around with it some more.

Will definitely be keen to see the Sentinel in action with an OSSC and hear/see your findings re: the F3 :)

yeah me and my buddy the modfather have a theory that it requires a mod similar to the SNES Dejitter mod... on a few occasions I saw of a csync cleaner for it but the board was from japan. So i figured to give the Jrok sync cleaner a chance since modfather uses Jrok products for the streams at ifix machine for the arcade hardware anyways

Awesome. We'll test CPS2 and UMK3 at iFix.

and cps 3 , naomi and FINAL FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

Forgive my ignorance, how will the JROK sync cleaner help regarding F3 and OSSC? Is it doing something beyond a standard sync cleaner?

There's an LM1881 sync cleaner on the supergun itself if that makes any difference.

So the F3 outputs a very weird signal to the OSSC

previous thread here
Possible to Mod a Taito F3 Board for Better Sync Compatibility?

when connected to AV3 people have found some success to getting it to work via OSSC but in my case it doesn't work at all still

If you haven't pulled the trigger yet I've bought a few extensions and I can't recommend Mike's extension enough, it's by far the best built one I've used https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=JAMMAEXT

Just be sure before you order to contact Mike because he does the JAMMA standard only by default so buttons 4/5 will not be populated on the edge connector

Literally where I was gonna get my extension from

Just a heads up, using an extension will make using a CPS2 kick impossible. I make them at around 20cm which keeps things tidy and allows plenty of length when the supergun is docked directly to the A board.

The supergun is quite compact and light, you judge for yourself but I don't find an extension is needed. With PCB feet attached to the supergun (which I've provided) the supergun and CPS2 both sit at the same height.

That's actually really good to know... I was scared that the sentinel had some weight to it.. I'll be throwing some PCB feet on it once it arrives.. I'm even more excited now

This. With PCB feet attached there’s no need for an extension. YMMV but I’ve tested a few boards now and haven’t felt there’s any risk of strain on the edge connector

I kinda feel adding an extension also takes away from/defeats the purpose of the very compact design

Also adding another device to the chain adds the possibility of something going wrong. What if the extension uses crumby wiring, poor quality wiring on the power lines, has a loose connection or is simply wired incorrectly?

The supergun is 130mm x 60mm and only weighs a few hundred grams.

I guess it's also safe to say I'm gonna test out the JNX rapid fire adapter as well as the system 16 adapter for this as well
