New Astro City PSU (400-5261) - Q1 replacements?

Updating this thread before I forget - thanks to @trashedcabs a 20N50 was installed in place which worked out well in getting the PSU back to not blowing fuses. I'm not getting any -5/5/12V DC out of the unit now and only AC for the monitor, so more work is to be done soon...

New Astro City PSU (400-5261) - Q1 replacements?

Hey folks, Long story short - received a NAC and the first test lasted for a few seconds until the PSU shut off. Turns out all caps but AC filter were leaking, they were replaced but second test blew the fuse immediately. Further troubleshooting led me to Q1 being completely shorted out of...

MV4 woes (graphical issues, no sound)

Good news is that all four slots now work without any graphical corruption :) Will give a shot at recapping the audio section of the board soon, hopefully that's all it takes to get this board fully working again. Are there any chances the 7805 voltage regulator could be bad in that section as...

MV4 woes (graphical issues, no sound)

It had quite a bit of corrosion built around it, wasn't sure where exactly the traces below were going either. I had looked at the schematics before but it wasn't very clear where exactly things were connecting so pulling the chip out and probing the exposed remains of the traces did the trick...

MV4 woes (graphical issues, no sound)

Pulled out 4R from the top board tonight, wasn't looking too good underneath lol. Ended up jumping 9 traces for good measure, not the cleanest job but will do the trick. Will report back once I'm able to test the board tomorrow.

Permanent Settings for TTX2 Multi Games

This is a very annoying issue that I used to face a lot when using the front end until I decided to skip it entirely and just boot into games directly. Games that autoboot will write their configs to D:\ (root directory) instead of the appropriate game folder, which also results in completely...

Windows 7 Read Only GroovyMame Image

Given MAME's recent plans of dropping Windows 7 support in 0.288, are there any plans of developing a newer image on something such as W10 LTSC? I've previously given GroovyArcade a shot (Linux equivalent of this) and it just wasn't a very good nor a functional experience compared to this. An...

MV4 woes (graphical issues, no sound)

Thank you all for the directions so far, after a closer look I've spotted some additional corrosion on the top board's 4R IC (74F245) and surrounding traces. Will have to come back to this soon-ish, will also have to probe around the sound portion of the main board to tell what's going on there...

MV4 woes (graphical issues, no sound)

Hey y'all, I've been on and off on this MV4 board for the past few months and I got it from failing to boot to somewhat running games. Spent a good while cleaning and reseating the cartridge slots and the top board connectors which got me to 3 out of 4 slots working from none, albeit with some...

Improved SuzoHapp 8-way Competition Joystick Pivot (95-0197-00)

I was getting sick of dealing with a pair of SuzoHapp Competition sticks that would barely have any overlap with diagonal inputs, upon further inspection the pivot part on the joystick shaft was simply too small. I've designed and made a slightly larger version of it, diagonal inputs now easily...

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike - 4 Way Real Hardware Speed Comparison!

Once again requesting for (Groovy)MAME to also be tested and compared, given it's primarily focused on accuracy and most folks with 15kHz arcade monitors will be using it.

    A Freeware Taito TypeX2 Multigame.

A while back I patched the main menu executable to remove all options besides selecting and starting a game, make sure to configure everything in advance before replacing it. You can grab it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WC_2Ef1MRqwPJdZOKUz0TdR2klSeCnIu/view?usp=sharing

Time crisis 4 calibration crosshair Jittery

andymage is talking nonsense, there's no correlation with using an LCD on an IR grid based light gun game to any aiming issues you may have. I will say that the jittery crosshairs seem to be normal in test mode, other videos of people calibrating their own machines will show similar behavior and...

    Unico 30" LCD

As far as I'm aware these new 30" and 25" panels are much better quality (IPS?) and don't have the washed out colors and bad viewing angles from the original 26" monitor, chances are they'll have the new control board which is more responsive too. I've been told this size was made specifically...

DDR X - no video signal after CMOS battery replacement

Is the computer powering on alongside the machine when power is connected to it? Chances are replacing the battery erased the CMOS settings, which includes auto power on, and the computer is just off. Manually turn it on and re-enable that feature in the BIOS, hopefully you'll be good to go...
