I don't know what is different with the 229 set, but as this is now the current MAME build could we get a bump to this version as well?

I’m not sure you’re understanding what the CPS2 multi is. This device attaches to an original CPS2 board and plays rom dumps on real hardware.

Mame is an emulator trying to mimic real hardware.
Updates to mame do not change the rom dumps, it only updates the way mame is trying to emulate real hardware.

The CPS2 Multi is not emulation. It’s a loader for real hardware. It’s what Mame is trying to get to. This multi has nothing to do with mame.
 
I think @rtw 's previous posts stating "updated to support MAME 0277" and "updated to support MAME 230" is the source of confusion here.

The CPS2 Multi Romset Generator assembles a CPS2 Multi ROM set by copying the appropriate files out of a MAME fileset. So the Romset Generator only needs to be updated if MAME changes their file layout in such a way that the CPS2 ROM files aren't located in the same locations as the prior versions.
 
Does this rom generator support hacked cps2 roms? I tried with patched rom and got file error.
 
it supports modified ROMs, but you must unpack all the needed files to a directory instead of a zip file.

Do you have any plan to release this for cps1 port? It would be super cool since cps1 multi just released.
