Arcade PCB Practice Mods - Gradius IV, Dodonpachi, Outzone, Tatsujin-Oh, XEXEX

Thanks for the really cool project. Probably a dumb question, but with Gradius IV could I just download the 837c01.27p mame rom, apply the selected patch, burn the rom to a 160 then replace it on my pcb, or do I have to extract this rom specifically from my specific board and then apply the patch/burn?

Binary is binary, that's all I'll say

Hi @alamone,

I'm wondering if I could get you to help with your mod tool. I've successfully burned 27p with the updated options, but when running it on real hardware trying to get to the Stage Select by pressing Start + Any Button doesn't seem to work. In Mame it works, but for some reason on real hardware it doesn't.
All my other options came through fine: Pause, Numeric lives, Gadgets, Sound Test, etc...

But Stage Select & Edit Mode aren't accessible. I've tried all ways I can think of for pressing Start + Any button. I tried just pressing start and every button individually, doesn't work. Tried holding down the button then pressing start, still nothing.

I've even removed the Auto-Fire option and reburned 27p, thinking that maybe the auto-fire was messing with my button presses, but still didn't work.
Here are my current Mod Tool settings:

Have you been able to test this on real hardware? If so, any tips for getting into the Stage Select screen? Thanks.

Hi, sorry to necro, I don't know if I mentioned it but this mod only works on the JAMMA I/O, not using JVS, for the controls. Reason being simple, the MAME driver doesn't seem to appear to support using JVS for inputs, so it's hard to develop for it. I think JVS also adds latency, so it's probably better to use the JAMMA I/O anyway.

I should have mentioned that I’m running it on a converted Silent Scope with a JST-to-Jamma adapter which is direct connected to the board just like the Jamma I/O. I’m not using JVS.

Since it's a conversion from a different game, it's hard to tell. I suspect that the pins that are being wired on your conversion do not exactly match to the JAMMA IO pins on a real Gradius IV PCB, and thus the I/O memory mapping doesn't match, but that's just a guess. I'd have to look into it further.

Curious if anyone flashed their ROM on an actual PCB and can confirm it's working? Seems to work fine in Mame, although I've noticed inconsistency with accessing the menu in-game, sometimes it works other times nothing. Thanks for your work Alamone!!

I've tested it on my PCB, and I've had testers try it on their PCBs without issue. Can you explain the steps you did to recreate the issue?
