Sega 400-5198 recap & repair help (was: short driving me crazy)

I discovered the 5V pot had a broken leg, probably fatigued when I squeezed a 3D printed pot extender on. I was unable to repair the leg, and since I'm only reading ~0.865 kOhm resistance, I'm guessing it's also worn down from an original 1 kOhm resistance. Does anyone know the part number for...

New Astro City PSU 400-5198-01Y - Voltage Pot Extender

Awesome, gonna try it out! Might take a couple days because 1) I also need to make sure this PSU and voltage pot are still working at all (my dirty hack might not have been grippy enough), and 2) I'm letting it discharge between times I open it.

New Astro City PSU 400-5198-01Y - Voltage Pot Extender

I have a plain 400-5198 and wanted to use this, but I found it ~2 mm too high/tall for the case’s metal supports. Not sure if the 400-5198 is actually different in height from the -01Y model. I don’t know anything about modeling, so I just sliced off the bottom lip in Bambu Studio. The bottom...

FS Stereo + Kick Harness Add-on Boards (Everten)

I'm still hunting for a Seibu SPI board, so I don't know which variant I'll need. It's one board with two different cable variants, right? Any chance I can just buy one board with both cables just in case?

Sega 400-5198 recap & repair help (was: short driving me crazy)

Thanks, @nem Okay, so amid all the sources saying ground and hot should have large or infinite resistance between them, I found some sources saying essentially: In an isolated circuit, ground is an arbitrary choice by the designer, not earth ground. (Also, I realized I have no ground wire...

Sega 400-5198 recap & repair help (was: short driving me crazy)

WHAAAAAT. Yes, that's a 47 Ohm resistor. I spent two nights looking at this!! How does that work from an electronics standpoint? I don't have an EE background, but I thought there needs to be much higher resistance between ground and hot.

Sega 400-5198 recap & repair help (was: short driving me crazy)

Putting this in general since the nature of the problem is probably not Sega-specific. tl;dr: I have a short. I can't find a solder bridge and I want to know if anyone knows of other common sources of short circuits. My Astro PSU's +5V line was topping out at ~4.5V. I've heard a couple times...

Should I get into Naomi ?

The failure information is great. TIL. To the original question, Naomi has an amazing library spanning many genres. Excellent fighting games, shmups, sports games, and even gun and racing games if you have the right equipment (hint: OpenJVS + USB). If you're going to get a JVS setup, it's the...

Great 1000 Miles Rally rom swap to Evolution Model

@twistedsymphony Thanks for your post. Your ROM board pic helped me find that U47 is missing on my Mille Miglia 2, which is probably why I'm not getting voices. Hopefully that's the only reason why.

FS Arcade Spring Cleaning: Namco 2X6 IO, cocktail parts, vewlix parts & more

!! Does Senxin/Senjin Aleste normally run on TTX3 hardware, or something else? I figure there'll be a home port eventually, but having it in a 31 kHz cab would be pretty sweet. DM

SOLD Sega NEPTUNE Board, SMD parts populated

That few hundred dollars is what I'm hoping to avoid! It seems unlikely that this will ever reach a scale to justify injection molding, but a man can dream. In the mean time, I can put a pretty sweet 32X sticker on a Model 2 shell.

SOLD Sega NEPTUNE Board, SMD parts populated

FWIW the GamesCare Neptune will be FPGA-based, not original hardware. So it's more like an Analogue console and then some. I have the GamesCare SCART switch and have had good experiences with support, so hopefully the product delivers. https://www.retrorgb.com/gf1-neptune-console-revealed.html...

SOLD Sega NEPTUNE Board, SMD parts populated

It's a lot of SMD caps and resistors. If that's someone's idea of a good time, you're in for a treat! I'm not confident I can transfer the custom chips safely, so I'll probably kick it over to a pro.

Wow, what a deal! Tim's asking price is $300 AUD for a modded PGM mobo and 375 for each Fluffy cart. Great way to get into PGM if you don't have one and want to jump over the AliExpress cheapo stage.
