Sorry for the triple post, I can't attach more than 10 files per post.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Mission Complete!! After doing extensive testing during the weekend, I can confirm that the capacitor replacement completely fixed all the audio issues. I ran trough every game at least a couple of minutes (including Xeno Crisis and Hypernoid), played a lot of matches of Windjammers, Neo Turf...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

If the connections between the ROMs, the CPLDs and the board edge are the same, they should be usable. Otherwise you will have to do some reverse engineering to figure out how the signals are connected, and modify the CPLDs code in consequence. Regarding the dumping and flashing, on Vortex repo...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

To be honest, I just put two lentil shaped trough hole capacitors I had on my component box, that probably are older than me 😂. Next monday I will measure the value of the original capacitors, the multimeter I have at home can't measure less than 1nF. As long as it works, I'm not touching it...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

If you still have some boards with this sound issue, would be nice if you can test it, just to confirm.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Finally, I got the audio issues resolved!! I still have to extensively test it, but I think I now have a 100% working cart. I tried a lot of things to fix the audio: Checked and rechecked soldering and continuity, specially on V ROM Remove the voltage regulators and power the cart boards...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Finally completed the mod today, and started to test it. Everything is totally perfect, except for the sound. It is fine about 99.9% of the time, but occasionally there are slightly distorted samples or notes. This is mostly noticeable on the music of the Metal Slug series, there are some notes...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

@xodaraP, after extracting the C ROMs, are you using new daughterboards, or reusing the old ones?

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

@rewrite, from the thread "Interest Check: Pre-made upgraded 161-in-1 multicarts - All spots filled - 11/13 : WAITLIST", is currently doing the mod by request. I don't know where he is from or if he ships worldwide.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Already got the whole chip set desoldered, reflashed and perfectly labeled, to avoid stupid errors. Tomorrow, the CPLDs.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

@bytestorm, @MaRC, A few days ago I received the dumper and daughter boards from JLPCB, and yesterday I had some free time to start putting things together. Good news! The F0095H0 from Aliexpress worked flawlessly, I was able to program and dump it back without any single error, and both files...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Good to know! This reminds me, more than 20 years ago, a friend of mine gave me a "broken" SDRAM module that made the computer unable to POST. After a lot of testing in different computers and combinations, I looked at the module trough magnifying lens, and I saw an extremely thin and small...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Seems like the CHA board CPLD is not addressing bank 0 for the S ROM on boot, so it is displaying tiles from another game instead of the menu. Maybe some lines of the cable that connects the boards are not making good contact? Do all the games work, or only some of them? Obvious question, did...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

That's the same from Vortex archive.org package. The kof2000nrxfix ROM from page 35 is far better, at least the texts are much more readable.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Hello Everyone! First of all, and most important, thanks to everyone who made this possible. Specially Vortex and rockbottom for the hard reverse engineering work, ack and ManCloud for their contributions to the project, rewrite for giving advice and sharing his experiences... Sorry if I miss...

    Darksoft Neo Multi Help thread

While waiting for the MVS Multi to be available for purchase again, and now that the Roll-Up Pack is down, I'm trying to recreate it from clean MAME romset. I have it almost complete, save for the following exceptions: kof99, kof99e, kof2000, garou and garouh: these romsets have and aditional...
