Sorry, that's what I meant - they all show in colour when selected, and black and white when not. The screen shot in the OP shows 3 characters in colour because it's showing a 3 player game.

Just wanted to say thanks for this - the euro character select screen really put me off this game, but now I love it. The gfx were garbled when I went to 1,0,0,1 but perfect when I went to 1,0,0,0. The fourth character shows in colour when you select it.

Little update as I've made some progress with Pilot Kids! I moved the jumpers so they're all the same position as Dynamite Cop, and the game boots with normal background and 2d graphics, but messed up polygons (big triangles moving around the screen). I haven't heard back from Shou yet. Does...
