From what I understand, chihiros are fairly fragile. The BGA chips on there can be reflowed with the proper setup, but they usually get damaged during shipping. Who knows how much of that is due to bad shipping practices? For the spare, try swapping the working fan over. Some systems won't boot...

No acid damage found in the battery area. Battery had been replaced a bit poorly and ground trace pad had come up, but that doesnt seem to have affected anything else. Looks like I'll be verifying traces for a while.

Is the whole thing broken, or is it just one of the pins? I've heard of people using a needle or a similar sized piece of metal to replace the pin. Desolder the one pin, then replace with needle/metal.
