I've seen around the forums people putting their control panels on custom racks and I think that is a cool approach. However, I really came to this hobby from the FGC and I got to thinking maybe there is something else I could do with the various CPs I've purchased for my precious Vewlix- the only manufactured cabinet I own. I'm fairly new here, but you may have seen me around asking various questions. Currently I have 2L16B and 1L7B in my possession along with 1P and 2P hitbox panels in transit.
My first idea was, and still is, integrating a CP into a custom-built arcade cabinet which I have some experience with- hopefully getting better with each iteration. With that said, just given the scope of work I may reserve that until I see my second idea to fruition. It only popped into my head this morning, but why not incorporate these extra panels in very wide, but also very streamlined fight sticks? Has anyone has ever tried this before? I'm a part-time handyman who is serviceable with design and carpentry so it would likely be a wood housing. Anyone aware of a craftsman fabricating custom housing out of something other than wood? I know this isn't really the focus of this board, but there are all sorts of cool things you can do with cob lights and led channels to make a truly one-of-a-kind stick. The arcade connectors allow for quick substitutions if you are wanting to go from traditional to, say, hitbox. I've also got a cool alkaline screwdriver (there aren't many options left out there for these) coupled with a deep nutdriver- making change-outs super quick!
Just curious if anyone finds this interesting or if there may be pitfalls I haven't yet considered. It took me a bit to figure out how I could tie the studs down onto wood, but I think I've got a plan for that. Thanks for reading- I will post updates as I bumble along.
