Anyone know where to get those IC tubes to hold IC's in? I've had a look around and couldn't find anyone selling them locally for a decent price. There are some international sellers, but there's charging $20 for shipping to ship some plastic so was hoping there was a hidden stash somewhere in AU that I could grab a few from

Sellers used to ship chips in those, but I've noticed lately they're getting lazy / cheap and just wrapping them in Glad Wrap.

I'll have a dig around and see if I've got any left over. At one point I was chopping them up to fit just one chip, but I might have some you can just have for the postage.

What length are you looking for?

There's also these cool EPROM storage boxes in Japan. But you could make something similar with some pink foam and a box really.

I have a big order of ICs coming (65 or so ICs) so would need around 1m or so? Maybe more? If you have some spare/left over, happy to pay you for them

And that IC box looks nice!

Fishing tackle boxes might work, especially the ones design for fly fishing lures. But there's also other boxes that are just a bit of foam insterted into a box.

@tika I had a look around in my parts boxes but couldn’t find anything bar a few straggling 1-2 chip holders. I must have thrown them out at sometime.

Maybe @xodaraP can help. I know he used to have some. Given the amount of chips you’re getting, you probably need about 10 x 1m lengths to store them.

Speaking of @xodaraP, he hipped me to my current EPROM storage, which is a set of small plastic drawers that Aldi used to sell. Looking for a picture, it looks like Jaycar sell similar ones to mine for $15: https://www.jaycar.com.au/33-drawer-parts-cabinet/p/HB6330

Aside from various EPROMs which take up the first few rows, I also use this to store all kinds of small components and just label each draw with a label maker.

I don’t think ESD is a problem for blank chips, but if you want to be extra cautious, you could use ESD safe bags or foam or whatever. I know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but just a suggestion.

Hopefully others on this thread can send you some tubes… someone’s gotta have them. If you have no luck here, try AussieArcade, I think the pinball guys also use EPROMs.

I still have some spare, I threw out a lot because I just had way too much of the stuff

Will pull it out and work out what I have, probably don’t have enough for 65 but I’ll be able to get you on the way there

Thanks for the storage suggestions @djsheep and @puckmungo , I'll see what my local Jaycar/Aldi have for bigger storage options.

If you have the time to find the ICs tubes, please let me know as I'd be grateful to buy a few off you

I find the foam storage to be better, you just get some foam and cut a square, that plastic rubbery stuff, and you poke the legs into it. Easy access I find it much better than the tubes because you have a box (or even no box) and just a sheet with all your ic's stuck into it and you can see them all like they're laid out. It's the same kind of stuff that a pool noodle is made out of.

It's actually called

Polyethylene Foam

This stuff (stock image). Bonus if you get white, and you're a noob like me, (forget whats what) you can write on it with pen, like, you can write things like "Neo Geo Multi Bios" or Naomi Multi Bios and then draw little squares around the groups of chips that are that. The legs of IC's poke into it really easily.
