Bad Dudes custom chip

Hi every one , I a repairing a bad dudes pcb, can I replace the custom chip
? and if I can where can I find one.

here's a a pic of the chip... the pic came from klov.....


I need to replace the bottom right one , due to the fact that my chip is missing three pins.

I dont think you can, has to be the same chip from another of the same type of board since its a custom graphics chip.

These are the compatible game boards that would have that chip:

Heavy Barrel, Robocop, Birdie Try, Hippodrome, and of course Bad Dudes.

You can try to get one of these boards cheap if sold untested or not working and try transplanting the chip.

You could send it out to get repaired, they will take off enough of the mounting package material to expose the leads for the broken pins and make the connections again. But it will probably cost you as much as buying a board, so there is that.

Look, look, those are Fujitsu made silicon foundry custom chips... (It's possible to tell by the overall look of the external encapsulation, sort of a ID of the maker)

In Japan some silicon manufacturing companies (Fuji, NEC, Ricoh, Sharp, Hitachi, for example) were already doing custom chips in the mid to late 70s for other Japanese companies like Nintendo, SEGA, NAMCO, KONAMI and of course DECO.

so it's possible to find that chip and not do a board swap.
what are the Ideal places to find this part?

You did not understand, right? Custom designed chips as requested by the customer. Like an FPGA but ROM based. Only DECO would have those chips as they paid Fuji to make them the chip with their (DECO) own design.

TSMC make the NVIDIA GPU dies but it won't sell you NVIDIA GPUs as they don't own the design rights. Same idea. So, nothing changed. Your only source of those chips is a scrap board or DECO if they still have some (I don't think so lol).

Update

since I can't justify paying 80 bucks for bad dudes .... the ebay prices on arcade pcb's is ridicules.

so I fixed it my self.

I shaved of the top of the chip to get the contacts.



then I used a box cutter to separate the contacts so it would be easy to solder
it was a bit of a pain to do but when you separate the contacts it is much easier .








and after that I used hot glue to hold it all in place .






and that's it.

soldering is easy once you understand how things work.
