Bad EPP Rom

I have a run and gun 1. It reads EPP Rom 35e bad when it boots up. I read if you press and hold the test switch it would reset. I tried that and it didn't. I found the chip on eBay brand new to replace it. My question is do I have to download a special program to the chip or can I just remove the old chip and solder the new one. I tried to Google the problem but it directed me to mame roms. This is a original arcade PCB. Sorry for the noob question. Still learning. Also where can I buy the sound chip. I heard these go bad and I would like to replace them as I'm going to replace the bad ROM anyway. Thanks

Replace the chip and hold the test switch, should do the trick (if the EEP was really bad, could also be a bad trace or logic fault).

About half the time I find it's the EEPROM. The other half it's a Fujitsu logic failure.
