What are some of the (proper) methods you guys use to clean up IC legs, etc...?? Sometimes I have to source used eproms, etc...so they do not come in the best of shape. And being the that ere are also differences in like ceramic and plastic IC packages, what works best for both or either one. etc...

Fiberglass brush pen works ok the few times I've had to use it. I know some of the old school guys will use light sandpaper if it's really bad.

I haven’t personally tried it but I‘m told a light metal polish paste can help get corrosion off. Application and technique would be similar to sandpaper but its less harsh.

I'd just like to point out that you should re-tin the legs after removing the oxidation by mechanical means (fiberglass pen, sandpaper, teeth, etc).
Bare metal will corrode easily if not protected.
I've found that a strong flux plus solder will remove the corrosion and leave a very good, shiny, protected surface.
It's messy but it works well in my experience.

Thanks for the feedback guys, trying to see what methods work best for the situation. Chemical vs Mechanical or both depending on the condition.
