Hi,

I acquired a twin Le Mans 24 in poor shape last year for the express purpose of spare parts.
One of the monitors had a broken cathode. While knowledgeable about electronics, maintenance and repair, CRTs are quite new to me.
Can this be salvaged in any way, or is it destined for the electronics landfill

The chassis, yoke, and neck board are all probably salvageable, but the glass tube is toast. Think of the glass CRT tube as a giant light bulb, or more accurately, a giant vacuum tube. Once you break the glass, it's pretty much gone.

The chassis and neck board are 2 the big PCBs you see in the image, and the yoke is thing attached to the tube that has magnetic windings on it.

8-Bit Guy on YouTube recently did a fantastic video on how CRTs work, if you're interesting in learning more.

Aah, so the yoke is a slid-on piece to the tube.
I was looking at all the adjustment rings, clamps etc, and figured that maybe, just maybe, it was possible to replace the cathode.
That's a shame.

I'll salvage the rest of the parts, and just scrap the whole tube itself then.

You can replace the tube itself if you have a compatible donor. Make sure you save the yoke and rings from the old tube, you will need that for the swap.
